Great Sand Dunes Colorado

We just got back from a wonderful week end at Great Sand Dunes NP in Colorado. The Campgournd has 88 sites many with shade and many with a good view of the dunes. Only a few with a view of the dunes and shade. We chose shade. No hooks ups but you can see deer most days and bear some days. We didn't see any bear, attached is a photo of a doe next to the Minuet and a photo of the trailer site.

Walked part way up the dunes twice in the late afternoon and came down in the dark. Cooler then and you can watch the bats working the stream in the evening. Great night sky, very little light polution.

Got our first wave from a fellow streamer on the way back, just east of LaVeta pass, Sunday early afternoon. Was that you?

Had lunch in LaVeta and watched the steam train depart LaVeta for Alamosa. All in all a fine trip and only about 360 miles round trip from our door step. Will make it an annual for sure.

Brooke and I own 5.36 acres just off of Hwy 17 and just north of Alamosa. We have a perfect view of the Sand Dunes NP.

Every time I see your reflection photos I want to go slit my wrists.

After 3 years I'm almost to the point where I can make out my reflection. One would think that after all that polishing I'd of shrunk too, but that darned reflection in mine shows a somewhat larger blur than was there the first time I took a look.

GREAT photos, thanks for sharing them.

What a nice place to have so close, and to have property right there is even neater. I can hear the Cloud purring out in the back yard already.

Yeah, you are right. Donna would kill me. Okay, let me rephrase that. Donna would sell my tools to someone who wouldn't properly appreciate them. Guess I'm stuck with continuing the polishing game.

Shari,

Those are really great shots. Lots of work to set up the mirror however.

I enjoy the dunes and have often thought it would be a fun site for a fall rally- maybe a full moon deal.

There are some group sites available there. Sounds like you may have hit upon a good idea.

Actually, I've been toying with the idea of selling it for a few years now. I bought it ten years ago, with the intention of settling down there after I retire from the Army, but the more I think about it I think I want to retire in Idaho. $10,000 to the first person interested.
