Grassy Key RV Park - Marathon, FL

Our search for a good place in the Keys continues. Has anyone had any experience at RV PARK FLORIDA KEYS?

While I haven't been to that place in particular (we enjoy a little privacy), we had a good time at Boyd's RV park in Key West. We really enjoy Pennekamp, Long Key, and Bahia Honda State Parks though.

We've tried a number of times to get into the state parks (Long Key, Bahia Honda and Pennekamp) but we've never been able to get a reservation. That's why we're trying to find a decent private campground. Most seem to be really large/crowded. We're hoping to find something a little smaller/low key. Boyds seems awfully large and cramped, from what I can determine on-line. Grassy Key and El Mar seem to be a little smaller & more subdued? ?

When are you going? Long Key has about 10 sites open right now... even for the Labor Day weekend (at least they did last week). The thing about the popular florida state parks is that people reserve them up to a year out because they can. A lot of those get cancelled.

For instance, I'm going to Sebastian Inlet SP on Friday for three nights because someone cancelled last week.

Our problem is that we go in February when things DO get booked a year in advance. It's very frustrating.

Yeah, that stinks. The snowbirds own this state from December until April. You talk about frustrating? Try living here and not being able to go camping during the best time of the year because the campgrounds are full of snowbirds who may or may not be even staying at the parks. A lot stay with their families and just park their RVs there, visiting once a week or so.

Haven't been to Grassy Key RV park but have reserved a spot there for the month of November when the rates are a little lower. We love the Keys and have stayed at most of the state parks and the KOA near Key West but since we didn't book 11 months in advance, nothing was available for an extended period of time. Looking forward to our trip as Marathon is nice and there is a lot of kayaking and biking in the area.
