good spots in ND, MT, or north across the border?

Hi, everyone! We would love any suggestions for places to spend 2-3 days in North Dakota or Montana (or above the border, maybe Grasslands National Park) in July. We have a week to get from the vicinity of Fargo, ND to Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta with our Bambi 16. We'll need to catch up with work for a bunch of that time so we don't need a ton of stuff to entertain us, but we'd still like to be somewhere nice. Areas with less mosquitos would be nice, though I expect there'll be plenty everywhere.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Lou

International Peace Garden on the US Canada border. Nice campground and beautiful grounds. Just north of Rugby, ND

Elkwater in the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, south of Medicine Hat. A beautiful place, with water; trees, and local services. You need to work - we had a very good cell signal there with Rogers Mobile. I think Bell and Telus would be fine too.

It’s a half day drive from Waterton, so an excellent stop on your way.

Along the Yellowstone R. just south of Livingston MT. Great sites . Dine at Sage Resort restaurant. Visit Livingston. Chico Hot Springs resort for food and / or hot springs

I second Roosevelt NP - and the lovely town of Medora with a great community theater. .

I will second Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This park is truly amazing:

- Great hiking
- Buffalo and prairie dogs all over the place
- Cool western town of Medora with crazy outdoor show and pitchfork steak dinners

We stayed nearby at Buffalo Gap campground for 2 days.

We spent a week in Downstream COE campground below the dam on Lake Sakakawea. Visited historic Lewis & Clark sites, took the tour of the powerhouse at the dam, the fish hatchery, and nearby Hazen & Beulah, ND. Beautiful area.

Suggestions for Alberta Saskatchewan

A few suggestions for you with a couple of pictures:

1). Grasslands National Park. Camp in the west campground and fill your water tank before. Also note that there is a long gravel road from the park gate to the campground.
2). Cypress Hills - camp on the Saskatchewan side - better facilities and nicer campgrounds.. You may want to visit the TRex Discovery Center at East End between Grasslands and Cypress.
3). Writing on Stone Provincial Park - Hoodoo’s and spectacular rock art paintings.
4) Dinosaur Provincial Park - the world’s most prolific Cretaceous dinosaur dig.
5). Waterton National Park
