Pleasant Garden, NC to the Florida panhandle, about 670 miles. Wouldn't have been too bad except for having to deal with Atlanta.

I think it's okay to miss the first night of a reservation. It's just money. When you're really road-weary, you don't drive as safely as you think you are driving. It's just not worth rising life, limb and Airstream IMHO.

Our longest day was very early in our ownership while on a newbie snowbird trip from east coast to southwest. We traveled from Lafayette, LA to Big Bend NP to escape a huge Canadian Arctic blast and ice storm. With only one experienced driver towing we traveled approx. 825 miles! It was either a long day or potentially getting stuck at an RV park on I-10 for several days ( which we later confirmed many travelers did in fact do). We arrived fully stocked with fuel, food and wine just 6-7 hours before the ice storm arrived all the way to the Rio Grande River banks. The surrounding landscape was glazed including the cacti and trees. Photographers came from Tucson and Phoenix just for the rare photo op.
But our usual style is under 400 miles per day unless traveling cross country.
We've traveled PA to Tahoe in 3-4 days primarily Wallydocking and Crackerdocking. Not fun to doing such long days but we are soon relocating out west and our Airstream adventures will be very pleasant since we'll be much closer to our favorite spots in NV, UT, CA and PNW.

14 hours with my girlfriend (she is now my wife) also sharing the driving. It was the first leg of a two week trip west, we had many miles to get there and wanted to put in a lot of miles the first day.

I remember we spent the night in a Walmart parking lot, where we ate our supper and drank a few beers while standing up. We didn't want to sit down because we had been in our seats all day, and then some.

I might be willing to do it again, the marathon drive, but without staying at Walmart.

It depends .....

.... on your speed, how many drivers, and whether or not you are driving the back roads or interstates and whether or not you want to drive at night.

In our case, we have two drivers, take the back roads, our maximum speed is 60 mph and we don't drive at night. When planning trips, we plan on an average speed of 45 mph that takes into account breaks, gas stops and going slower through small towns. That gives us a pretty accurate estimate for how far we will get down the road in the number of daylight hours available to us.

Hope this helps.

Amarillo to Montrose.

We have driven to Montrose, Colorado several times with our AS. We do it in two days. Dallas to Amarillo the first day and Amarillo to Montrose the second. The second day is 520 miles and we go through Monarch Pass.
As a personal rule, we like to keep the days to no more than 8 hours. Plus we try to get to our landing spot well before sundown in order to park and unhook without using flashlights.
We learned the hard way to get to a park early when we stopped at a very nice KOA in Tennessee. We checked in and went to the spot. After a half hour of trying to back into the spot and LOTS of help from other campers, it was clear that our 22' Bambi was just not going to fit. So we had to go back to the front desk and get a different spot. Had it been much later in the day, the result might have been worse. i.e. damage to the trailer, etc...

We pulled 550 miles on the interstate highway about 4 years ago. Never again. Now max is 350 and that’s if we have to get there. Start looking around 250 miles now.

I used to do 1,460 miles from Chicago none stop other than fuel and eats.
Did it for many years without trailer.
I might pull an occasional 725 miler Chicago to Atlanta with Trailer even now but last year with my wife's urging I began to enjoy meandering and taking it slower keeping it under 400 and if it fits 300 miles per day.
I am actually getting to prefer it.
Will be turning 76 in November time to slow down a bit.

Hi DougHeff, welcome to the forum (again). Looks like you haven't posted since May of 2016 when you were looking at a 34' AS. Just getting back into the swing of camping?

How far you can go in a single day of towing is determined by several things.
  1. What is the most you've ever towed and for how long?
  2. What are you towing for this adventure?
  3. What's the terrain you'll be towing over? Florida terrain is very different than western Montana.
  4. How old is the equipment, trailer and tow vehicle? e.g., are the tires brand new or 7 years old?
  5. Will someone else be sharing the driving?
I'm 72 and I pull a 17' bass boat up to Wisconsin from Kentucky every year. I stop at about 700 miles for the night. We took the AS out west this year and the longest day's drive was Cheney, WA to Custer, MT, 611 miles. Pulling the AS was much more strenuous than pulling the boat, even with a blowout on the boat trailer. Personally, for the AS I like to go no further than about 375 miles a day. But then, I'm retired and can set whatever pace I want, a retirement benefit.

When I was a young man I could do a 14 hour drive with out any problems. Now that I am not a young man anymore, I limit myself to 5 hours whether towing my AS, driving my Jeep, or riding my Harley. That's a self imposed limit for safety.

1,070 Miles - Ogallala, NE to our home in Michigan several years ago. We had no intention of driving that far, but found major flooding in Chicago area and no place to stop, so we kept going. Got home at 3:30 AM. Wouldn't advise doing that again but at the time it was fine.

852 miles in 16 hours. But don’t think longest, think what is manageable and safe for you. Eight hours at a safe speed with our setup is our max today. Bottom line don’t rush.

Furthest Pull in one day

We’re looking at around 600 miles to Cloudland Canyon staying for 6 nights. We plan on leaving early 3-4 am. I’m not going to push it and do like people suggested stop midway for an hour or so. I just wished we were retired and didn’t have any time restrictions. Thanks for all the tips and advice.

Hello and thank you, yes we’ve been looking for just the perfect AS and I think we found it in a 2007 Safari 27fb. We’ve pulled it a few times less than 3 hours away for a long weekend but this will be our first long trip.
If we start and see it being too difficult we will just stop and divide it into 2 days.

Memphis, TN, to Santa Rosa Lake SP, NM. 900 mi, 15 hrs, last summer. But I wouldn't recommend it. When I suggested stopping at SRL SP, DW said "it's only 2 more hours home (Albuquerque). As the only driver when towing the AS I said "We're stopping."
