Ft Desoto site reserved!
We (my wife!) just reserved a nice site in Ft Desoto FL during the last week in February and the first week in March! This is the place where we first became "aware" of Airstream trailers and began the three year quest to become owners. We were tent campers this year, next year we go as Airstreamers!
Ft Desoto is a lovely county park near St Petersburg for those who don't know.....
Kayaks, bicycles, IPad, Airstream and we will be ready to play! I can't wait!!!!
This picture is the actual site we have reserved...

You'll have a great time. I love Fort Desoto - spent a lot of winters visiting the park almost daily. Someday we'll get the trailer there, but for now we use a different aluminum tube to get there...

Whoo hooo!!! Looks like you picked a great site. Just to be clear, you're not traveling with pets, right? They're only allowed from site 86-164.

Have fun! Ft Desoto is in our top 3 of all campgrounds we have ever been too. Here's a pic of the site from our last visit.

Be very aware that the racoons will visit your AS as you sleep, if your running the air-conditioner, to get the condensation water since it's drinkable for them. My wife and I spent 10 days there last year and enjoyed every minute. When you come into the park and take a left at the "T" in the road, down the road about 3/4 of a mile, you can set in your car or on the beach and watch the kite-surfers with the Tampa Bay Bridge as the back ground.

No pets with us for this trip! We miss them but we think everyone is happier home with their favorite pet sitter....

We have watched from exactly there! It is simply an amazing place.
As for raccoons, the change from 2010 and 2011 to 2012 was astonishing!
Raccoon activity was so far down we wondered if perhaps there was something killing them. We asked and learned that the park had a raccoon roundup right before we got there and many raccoons had been captured and relocated. I like them! Fun to watch.

Does this remind you of that view? The Sunshine Skyway bridge is in the background.

First, I know everyone has their favorites, but in the southeast, for campgrounds we have been to, these are our favorites:
Ft Desoto County Park (St Petersburg, Florida)
Elkmont Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Gatlinburg, Tennessee)
Vogel State Park (Blairsville, Georgia)
And we prefer the waterfront sites, whether on a bay, river, or creek.
Remember, this is only an opinion. There are many other campgrounds we haven't been to and would make our list too.
