Fort Yargo Ga... Off 85... Close to Atlanta

My wife and I just got back from Fort Yargo in Winder Ga. What a wonderful place to camp. Great hiking and Bicycle trails. A great stop off point for people traveling I-85. The camp ground is close to Atlanta and not that far off the interstate if you get off the Winder exit. Check out the picks.

The yurts they have are rent for $60.00 per night. Hardwood floors, Heat, and electricity. They have a fire pit and outside porch over the lake.

We Like Ft. Yargo Too

Danielle and I camped there last year at this same time. We enjoyed our stay. Not too crowded this time of year and once you're inside the campground you quickly forget civilization is close by.

When you say civilization, you certainly don't mean Atlanta do you?

Thanks Brian, I'm thinking Fort Yargo puts Stone Mountain along the route back and forth to Athens and an easy opportunity to have a look at the rock carving.

Stone mountain park has a really nice campgrounds on HWY 78 . You would be 1:10 hour out of Athens and lots to do.

We liked this park too. For those who have not yet tried them there are some fabulous State Parks, here are a few I can personally recommend:
Cloudland Canyon - awesome place with strenuous but worth it trails to waterfalls. the 2 1/2 hour drive from ATL is pretty cool too.
Fort Mountain - great views from up top, and the ancient Indian wall structure to explore.
FDR State Park- great great spot especially in summer when the natural spring fed pool is open across the road.
Watson Mill Bridge - has an old covered bridge ( at least is looks old) and is near Athens and Lake Russell)
Richard Russell SP- one of our favorites as the lake there is incredible for fishing, boating, and there is a super nice well maintained beach.
These are just a few of the ones we really liked. Not too far from home, but a world away as the saying goes..
