Florida Trip in May

We are planning a trip to Florida in May to visit my sister in St. Augustine and also planning on making a loop to other eastern and western costal locations. I've heard Anastasia Park is a good campground in St. Augustine area. I would appreciate any other recommendations you may have for other nice areas and campgrounds.
Thanks!
Matt

There are many awesome state parks in Florida. Anastasia and Gamble Rogers about 45 minutes south of it are excellent upper east coast parks. Jetty Park is a good county park near Canaveral. I haven't stayed there but I hear Sebastian Inlet is good. Great state parks in the keys if you make It that far south. I like Turkey Lake in Orlando (city park). On the west coast, look at Ft Desoto south of St Pete. It is a county park. Rainbow is an option to stop over if your heading around to panhandle. In panhandle, look at St George, St Joseph, St Andrew, Grayson Beach, Topsail and Henderson heading east to west. Make reservations immediately as these will be full in May. Once you have a more detailed route, it will be easier to get other suggestions.

Beverly Beach campground is not far. Ask for an oceanfront lot.

Stay out of Everglades NP! After April, the mosquitoes will carry you away...

Anastasia State is very nice and convenient to town. We like to stay in the Coquina Loop. Its the closest to the ocean.

Consider Fort Clinch State Park, on Amelia Island, in the northeastern-most corner of Florida.

Great suggestions above. I second Anastasia Park and Gamble Rogers. We live about 45 minutes from GR, and it's a nice stop, especially if you want some time to stroll the beach.

At the time of year you mentioned, I wouldn't go any farther south than the Tampa Bay area. The Everglades will be buggy, and the Keys aren't even close to recovering from last year's hurricane.

Haven’t been to many places in Florida but beverly beach is fantastic. We are headed back there in April. Also if you are a Disney fan, Fort Wilderness is super nice.

Beverly Beach and Ft Wilderness ought to be pretty deluxe -- last time I checked they were both over $150 a night...

We love this area but have not stayed at the park only visited. Not sure how available the spots are but we hope to get there soon!

We do not stay there a lot but pay about $120 for a beachfront lot in the Fall. Considering Beverly Beach is a full service site with a patio where we can step out onto the beach, it is not so out of line. It's hard even to find a oceanfront hotel room with direct beach access for 4x that.

Very true! Also, check the rates at Fort Wilderness (Disney-a little inland, of course), as they vary widely according to the season, but May might be a good time to go.
Ditto on Gamble Rogers too, but we opt to stay on the intracoastal side of A1A, as it is a little tricky backing into the ocean sites.
Enjoy!

Agree with all of the above. Beverly beach is a real treat. Parking on the sea wall line is delightful and worth the price for us once a year.

Thanks to all for your recommendations! I've checked most of the campgrounds for availability and learned I should have probably started looking last spring.😄

Matth57, as Jerrod had said, jetty park in cape Canaveral is pretty good, plus there are a couple of very nice county parks 8n Brevard county. In Titusville, right on the river is ?hammocks park, and in the south end of the county, just north of Sebastian inlet state park is another nice county park. Check these out, as you might have luck with reservations. Jetty park is a city park on right on the inlet.

May is a good time in Florida. Snowbirds heading home and campground availability is better. Still cool before the oppressive heat arrives. Fort wilderness prices start to drop after Easter break.
