Well I am sitting here laughing and shaking my head!!
This explains everything!
My husband just brought home another light treasure...an AlphaTAC Extreme Beam.
I even had to go outside the other night for a demo. Yup! It really beams out there!
We have so many flashlights I can't begin to get a tally!
It is all good. I know we are prepared!
Thanks for this delightful insight!

Flashlight Junkie
I've been using one of these for the last year. We do a lot of low light ropes work and caving and light has a great illumination pattern.
I witnessed a violent high speed rollover last night and was the first one to the vehicle. This light made a huge presence illuminating the crash scene and confirming that the wrecked vehicle was clear of victims.
On a side note: It appears that the driver was texting while driving.

Kevin: The red "safety" blinker on the back of that would be really good for just what you were using it for last night, emergency roadside work. Even when you're looking away from oncoming traffic they can see the blinking LED.

Funny you bring up the red blinking LED as it is what catches everyone's attention, and it isn't that bright. Nobody notices the white lights unless I accidentally shine their eyes.

HighPlainAS, you are a good and noble wife. Good light is something you only miss when you just don't have it.

The little light uses three AG13 button batteries, and is 2" long.

I work for an online retailer that sells LE Duty gear which includes flashlights. For handheld lights my preference is Fenix or Streamlight. The Fenix PD22 is my EDC (Every Day Carry) light that is 210 lumens at its brightest and still fits in my pocket. Takes a single CR123 battery.
For a handheld light it's a toss up between the Fenix PD35 (850 lumens, 2-CR123) or the Streamlight Pro-Tac HL 3 (1,100 lumens, 3-CR123). I do carry the Streamlight Pro-Tac HL (600 lumens, 2-CR123) on my duty belt as a backup to my Streamlight UltraStinger duty light.
For hands free work, I prefer Princeton Tec Headlamps. The Apex has several configurations for AA or CR123 batteries. Fenix just released their HP30 headlamp that runs on two 18650 rechargeable batteries (belt mount battery pack) and produces 900 lumens on burst mode. Just picked one up and will be testing it out.
A little background on me. 33 years as a reserve deputy doing SAR work for the largest sheriff's department in the country.

My buddy has a Coast brand headlamp - really nifty - battery compartment in back if head band along with continuous adjustment of power output for variable brightness and front ligh has focus control - I've had my eye on that one since last year!
