Airstream Fiamma Bike Rack Issue.......

After struggling with the known issue of breaking brackets on the Fiamma rack. I just couldn’t bring myself to ordering replacement parts that I knew were substandard and would simply just break again.

During a call with Sean Woodruff from ProPride Hitches I articulated my frustration and asked if he thought he could help. He didn’t just pander my frustration he actually took an interest and jumped all over it. About a week later he calls to say he had the replacement parts designed and produced. It’s a perfect substitute to the original but made of stainless steel and a whole lot stronger.

We installed a set on my trailer and it was dead simple as even the old screw holes lined up. I think this nagging issue with the Fiamma racks is finally put to bed!

If anyone is interested, just give Sean a call at ProPride I’m sure he can fix you up.

Just returned home from our third trip with our new FC 19CB. This was the first time using the Fiamma rack installed at Colonial Airstream prior to picking up the unit. Was shocked to find in the drive way that one of the arms had pulled completely out of the AS on the right side and it had started to do the same on the left side as well. I don't think the parts failed, they pulled out of the camper making me think this is an installation issue. Until I come up with a fix, what would be the best way to seal the screw holes to prevent wanter from entering the wall? The screws have insulation on them so I fear getting water in there.

How about some metal roofing screw with grommets or similar. Might need a larger size.

https://www.lowes.com/pl/Roofing-scr...are/4294710844

I'd go to ace for more variety. May want to do some probing in the hole for the bottom other than insulation. You may also try a plastic sheetrock anchor with a screw and metal backed grommet. The plastic anchors come in a variety of sizes.

Please post the final diagnosis. The oem screws may not have found any meat.

Bob
ps, that screw looks pretty short...about long enough to make it thru the skin and that's about all. That's scary.

pss, interesting you bracket stradles the row of rivets and arcticfox's at least on one side is directly on top of the row and maybe a vertical metal stud???

Check out my post #26. It is an older fiamma failure thread and seems i recollect discussed experience re portable interior anchoring options. Maybe a thru bolt right into some backing on the inside.

Not sure if this link is allowed but a moderator can delete if not. Here is a link to the replacement mounts. We ran out of the first batch we made but are working on more now. We will be shipping them by the end of the month.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks! Waiting to hear what Airstream has to say before I make any decisions!

Bad installation. I always screw the outside row into the vertical support locating them between the rivets, using as fat of stainless steel screws that will fit through the bracket. I rivet the inside row through the sheet aluminum, not so much for support but for guidance.

Seal the holes with Sikaflex, not silicone (incompatible with aluminum).

I've done it this way on my last three trailers without failure.

Fiamma Bike Rack failure -has this happened to you?

The verdict is still out on how it will preform in the long run. I had an excellent welder do the mod who has lots of structural fabrication experience so I am confidant that it will continue to preform as planned. If you have questions feel free to ask. I may also look into ordering a spare bracket but $48.00+ seems out of line. The mod cost me $300.00 but the rack was already mounted and I found no other easy solution for carrying my e-bike on the back. The fabricator spent several hours designing and doing the fabrication. I thought boats were the ultimate money sponges, go figure.[emoji57]

I really like that bike. I carry mine a bit differently, though.

Four screws and not one of them was placed in structure. I'm thinking the reason y'all are having problems is because of installation not design.

Mind has worked great, but it was installed by an A&P mechanic.

I pulled the bracket covers and they looked fine. However i noted they were dealer installed at 7.5" from the rub and the JC spec is 4.5. I suspect the higher the less stress. At least they are installed on the rivet line. I ordered and rec the PP brackets and they are seriously constructed. As such i'm comfortable with them being installed in the current (lower) location vs plugging those holes and moving it higher.

I went back to the dealer who installed who initially said this is too old for warranty. I sent them the JC video (2012) that is applicable for our 2014 FC and indicated there is no statute of limitations for work not done to JC specs by a factory auth dealer, imo. They agreed and will install the new brackets, in the current location.

I have listed on AS classifieds 2 Fiamma support arm brackets that could be used as spares. I am not sure how to include the link to the add. PM me if you are interested.
Thanks,
Ken

we are interested in the
FIAMMA CARAVAN XL A PRO 200 EBIKE rack
MODEL 02093E32A

it is very similar to the AIRSTREAM KIT MODEL
put made for ebikes and a frame mount
unlike the airtream kit that is made for regular bikes and bumper mount

does anyone know the FIAMMA part numbers for the top and bottom support brackets
ie to mount it to the rear bumper and rear wall

the later kit is made to mount on the front A frame. but there is not enough room to do so with our tern s10 ebikes

thus rear bumper mount is the sole option
attached is the fiamma airtream install document with NO parts number

you can get a custom SS bracket from these folks

their shop designed one from scratch as some of their customers had the same issue with the OEM bracket

http://www.propridehitch.com

just search fro FAIMMA on their site

My 'regular" Fiamma/Airstream biker carrier is frame mounted, 6 inches inboard of the bumper.
