Here's an interesting one we stopped at North of Tallahassee a couple of years ago......

Bradley's Country Store

We sat and had home made sausage on the porch (and took some home!)

They got a thank you letter from a president for sending him sone - but I forget which president! We did see the letter though!

Love country stores!

Simmons-Wright Company

The Simmons-Wright Company, at KEWANEE, Mississippi- outside of Meridian on the road to Selma and Montgomery, Alabama - is an authentic, working country general store, in the same family since it's founding in 1884.

What about the Classic....

Visit Wall Drug!!!! It's not far from Mount Rushmore and while up that way you can go see the Crazyhorse Mountain monument! Lots of other things to see in the Badlands and Deadwood has loads of tourist shops to wander thru. Don't forget to stop by Sturgis too! Then there is always Belle Fourche where the monument of the Geographic Center of the U.S. is located and just 50 miles North of the town off US Rte 85 is the actual Geographic Center of the U.S. How can you go wrong. We visited the Mast home store, pretty neat. IIRC it didn't show up on my GPS search, but it exists

Great to discover this old thread.

This old Ace Hardware store in Pacific Beach, San Diego, bailed us out early one Sunday morning in the 90's.

. . . as detailed in Post #4 of this thread:

Great hardware store located a bit west of you in downtown Pacific Beach.

We needed plumbing parts and a large tap, to fix a freeze-up due to a hasty winterization coming west, and that store had everything, plus opened early on a Sunday morning. Tore apart the bed to get to the water heater, bought parts and fixed everything my noon.

Old Stores

Glad to see some interest in this thread again. Since retiring we have made it to Wall's Drug in South Dakota, Lehman's in Ohio, the Floyd Hardware Store in Virginia and Renfrow's Hardware in Matthews, NC.
Keep the tips coming, we have a long list of places we need to stop.

If only I could remember.

Hi, in 1986 I was going to start as a "Mac Tools distributor". My Dad and I flew to Ohio to the Mac Tools factory for training and to pick up my brand new truck. As a great time to do something with my Dad [wife couldn't go] and a vacation of a life time. We drove this empty tool truck from Ohio to California. We stayed at several camp grounds and the bottom shelf on each side of the truck was large enough for each of us to have a sleeping bag.

Anyway, on the way home, in a city and state not to be remembered, we found and stopped at an old country store. I have never seen anything like it in my life. It was a huge wooden building located on a corner. I was amazed at what this store had. Too much to list. This store had everything for everyone. Food, clothing, tools, auto parts, farm tools, animal supplies, Etc. Etc. Etc. If you wanted, or needed anything, this store had it. I would love to find this place again or another store like this if there is one. This store had anything that you could name and many things that you would have no idea what so ever what they are.
