Ozark National Scenic Riverways has several campgrounds.
Big Spring now has some electric sites (even 50amp) and a dump station.

Good fishing and very clear spring fed rivers.
Big Spring used to be pretty crowded on the weekends, but very quiet on week nights even in the summer. Be sure to check out the ranger programs.

I was a Park Ranger there years ago and loved that place. Definitely plan on returning soon.

I appreciate hearing about all these great places too! We love SE Mo and NW Arkansas. We have enjoyed Bull Shoals White River State Park in Arkansas and the Quarry Dam COE campground along the Norfork River where both are great for trout fishing, and just being there. Now we have more places to try out!

Just a FYI, for a quick getaway from IA. Mark Twain Lake has several nice CGs as well. Including Mark Twain SP. A nice historic facility with Sam Clemons boyhood home. Some trails etc.. It's not the Ozarks, but it's closer for you. We've camped there a few weekends. Once in spring, and once in the fall. I personally don't like camping in Mo in August. Just too hot for me.

We are heading out to Round Spring Campground, (National Forest Area) tomorrow morning. It's exactly 1/2 way to Hohenwald, TN where we are going for some trailer fixes at the Oliver factory. Our first trip with the Oliver, so a lot to check out. Plus first trip with the new TV. 2014 Dodge Durango V8 Hemi.
