Epilogue: One year on the road

We pulled the Airstream onto Colonial Airstream’s parking lot in Lakewood NJ, on St. Patrick’s Day, ostensibly marking our one-year anniversary Streaming thru America, and my one-year anniversary of blogging with WordPress under the same moniker.

This has been a journey of a lifetime after a lifetime of journeys. (to continue reading

What a very nice recap.

From your writing style and posted photos one can easily see why you would want to continue. It's a very easy read and the photos are beautiful.

Will check out the blog further.

Great blogging, been wanting to do a similar trip ourselves, after managing a busy snowbird park for 3+ years it is hard to suppress the urges to hit the road full-time again.

Great write up and pictures, thank you for posting. I clicked on some but not all of the sites noted the map of the USA. So maybe I missed something.

It looks like you did not take outside grills or tables, lawn chairs and no additional canopy. No generator or solar panels? No additional gas can or water jugs?

Did you take a tool chest? Tire Jack in case of a flat tire?

The reason I am asking is that we are getting ready to purchase a 23' AS. I have a camper shell and the back of our truck has about 450 lbs of camping related equipment in the back, and which we can't seem to do without. The problem is I am over my payload capacity. I am trying to winnow the 450 lbs down as much as possible.

I notice the back out your truck is shown as being empty, so can it be assumed that you did not carry anything in the truck box?

Enjoyable read. Leaving the great peoples republic ?
Right behind you (I hope).

Don't mean to dump on NJ as I have been to a number of wonderful places in this great country and find my 6 acres surrounded by horse farms and fields to be just about perfect, with access to a NYC or PHL restaurant just over an hour away. But the taxes, rules and regulations are more than I care to put up with anymore. Retirement is going to be here shortly. My wife and I have seriously considered a year long AS trip such as yours, with the intent of finding a place where we would really like to live. But a hot rainy day in the Fla Panhandle, vs a sunny spring day in the Blue Ridge of Va has a way of clouding ones judgement, until you experience an ice storm in Va and a beautiful day in Fla. But reality and the bottom line will be the people that live there, more than the climate. There is something about S. Dakota that is calling me....

I definitely referred to all that you've mentioned in my post. My truck box was packed to the gills at payload capacity. And we were prepared with tools and energy and cooking options wherever we travelled.

When South Dakota calls, you answer the phone.
