E-ZPass Question

Hi folks,
I have had EZpass for many years but am just now getting ready to tow a trailer. Do I need to get a separate EZpass for the tv/trailer combo or will the automatic sensors pick up the trailer and charge me accordingly? I know I had to register each car separately when I first signed up and am unsure if I need to register a trailer combo as well since it will cost more. Thanks for any advice/info!

EZ Pass senses the trailer (at least on the roads I've travelled). The EZ Pass experiences of a number of airstreamers are discussed in:

I've gone through the E-Zee Pass drive-through (unmanned) booths on the Tappan Zee Bridge and they do not charge you for the trailer's additional axels. I've gone through the manned booths on the same bridge and they have charged my account correctly for the addiotional axels. E-Zee Pass will send you an additional seperate "Tag" that you only use when you are towing and it will bill you for the additional axels of your trailer and you can use the unmanned booths. There is no charge for the additional tag.

What's EZ pass? We don't do that in Minnesota, but the last time I drove around Chicago I used their little lanes to get around the toll booths. Worked really good.

I put mine in aluminum foil while towing.

According to the EZPass website (New Jersey), EZPass automatically counts your axles - no extra tag needed.

Anyone watch their EZ bills?
I have seen double counts on a few bridges, coming and going, when only went one way.

Well I just finished going to sign-up in Mass hoping for quicker travel this weekend and they told me because my truck has combination plates on it it's considered a commercial vehicle...price tag $30 personal tags Vs $80 Commercial......what a bummer.. ..keeping my $$$ in my pocket and waiting in line.

You will have to register your trailer with EZ Pass.

Be very careful with where you use it because several agencies charge the wrong rate when towing.

The Delaware Momorial Bridge charges double when towing anything and using EZ Pass. The Maine turnpike charges a tri axle trailer as a commerical truck, about 4 times the correct rate. The Delaware bridge on #76 at Easton charge $11.65 for my trailer when it should be $1.65, again a tri axle.

New York and Pa. tolls have been correct up until now. The Annapolis and Potamic bridges on #301 are correct when towing.

If you use EZ Pass it is a good idea to know the tolls before you do and then check your statement as it comes in. I have receaved credits for all overcharges to date but now pay cash on those I know to be incorrect jsut to save the fight once the statement comes in.

If you are considering buying an EZ Pass account do it from an agency that does not have a monthly carring charge. You don't have to buy close to home.

No mater what state you reside in, you can sign up for an EZ pass account free of charge in NY. Living in ME, I have a NY EZ pass (1) that I switch between 3 vehicles. Nothing addidtional for the trailer. Each state has different rules for passing thru tolls, e.g. in NH you can go thru any EZ pass lane with the trailer. I believe in NY when entering the turnpike, you have to go thru a manned lane for them to "register" your vehicle as you go thru, then upon exiting you can go thru any (manned/unmanned) lane. All states are different.

it's not so EZ is it? LOL maybe it should be CAR-EZ. it is nice in NJ where they have some plazas where you drive in an open area at normal (ok, legal) speed.
