No offense, Peter417, but you are dating yourself...........
GetawA-S - Perhaps it's not so much Peter417 dating himself as his being in a different part of the country. In the PNW many of the rest stops have dump stations as do several of the Cabela/Bass Pro shops.
As a boondocker I faced the same dilemma. So I installed a Nature's Head in place of the toilet, routing the urine into the now combined gray tank. Solid waste in the bin gets emptied about every 5 or 6 weeks into a plastic garbage bag and tossed into trash. One of the benefits of the composting toilet is that you are no longer flushing valuable fresh water into the waste system.
Allstays and rvdumpsites.net work for us. Haven't had to pay to dump or fill with water for 10 years. As for paying at truck stops - ever seen a toilet inside with a coin operated lock on the door? Nor me, so why charge us.
As for no dump stations in rest stops and visitor centres, just need to do your RV-ing in a different part of the country

I'm more than willing to pay the $7 to $10 charge to dump at a travel center and fill with water. I don't expect a free ride in that department. Now paying $30 at a KOA? I'll resort to digging cat holes before I'd do that.

Also just want to put out there that we've noticed how many folks (including some Hipcamp locations) have separate sewer access pipes on their property. Not at all sure how common this might be, just as part of normal residential construction, and they don't seem be installed with RV access in mind.
The local “Loves” truck stop near me has a dump station, but it sits up about a foot above the ground. I didn’t even try to use it. Might be a bit easier now that we have the 25FB lifted, but it was impossible before the lift.
