I just purchased two of these, one for the car and one for the truck. They are inexpensive $170 and come with just about everything the $400 one's come with. Comes with a second mount so you can move it to another vehicle.
Cameras - 3ch (Front, Inside & Rear)
GPS
4K +1080P (Front and rear)
1440 + 1080P + 1080P (Front, Inside & Rear)

I have one in my truck and rear window of my Airstream. One in Airstream is on 24-7. One in truck is only on when driving. It is plugged into cigarette lighter and is only on when key is on. Will be getting better unit for truck. For security reasons, I installed a light over dinette table that has a RF key fob and can be turned on from 250’ from trailer. All a matter of security!

GMC Dashcam

Thinkware Dashcam DC-H1-FG was a dealer accessory but it is available generally. Works very well and recordings retrieved via web. It actually has two cameras for front and back windows and be reversed to cab view. Purchased not only for driving recoding but has a great security features for watching suspicious activity when not driving.

All that I know require a power cable. How hard? Depends on the truck, no? I'm a "hide all the wires" kind of guy, so mounted the front camera up at the top of the windshield. I tucked the cable up into the headliner trim, down the trim on the A Pillar (be careful not to interfere with the airbag) and to a fuse box that is on the side of the dash by the door.

I wired it at the same time I was wiring my GMRS radio, so I can't say how much time it would have taken by itself. The GMRS radio required me to disassemble my whole dash and it got kind of ugly. Also, my dashcam has a rear facing camera as well that required me running wires back to the rear compartment of my truck, which took quite a while and a bit of disassembling. My guess, without the rear cam, maybe a couple of hours.

As far as dash cams go my brand I really like is by a company named REXING. There are different price points. My REXING cameras will use a large storage amount memory chip size. REXING makes really good cameras and there are plenty of models. The more information the cameras capture including time and dates, along with GPS positioning and the ability to stop recording after your vehicle takes a hit, all the better for you. Recording everything you can while traveling is in your best interest. There will be no guessing as to what happened and how. Be careful driving and have you silent honest witness to testify in your favor. Assuming your version is how things went down!

I wonder if UBER specifies a particular brand; it seems like they would have certain requirements, e.g., resolution, memory, power, etc.

I've been running a 2-channel (front & back) since I purchased our truck in 2018. I've been very happy with the Blackvue DR900X. It has wifi connectivity if you need to download/review footage. Seriously considering installing another in my wife's car.

It's amazing how irrationally folks will drive around an 8K# truck.

I just installed the AZDOME M300s in both of our cars. So far I am impressed with the cameras.

I have been thinking of doing this for a couple of years. Last weekend, parked in a lot during my son's baseball game, someone backed into our car and damaged the fog and daytime running lights. That pushed me to purchase them.

The AZDOME M300s is 4K front and 1080P rear camera with parking mode. I'll catch them next time!!

Just my 2 cents!

Dashcam

I have a Thinkware cam which I really like. Connects to cig lighter receptical and like others threaded through the trim so wires hardly visible. Has a feature that records in a minute and a half loops which turns on when hitting a bump and picks up the 30 seconds prior and saves it. I can also touch to record cool sequences.

Recently there was a roll over of a TV and Oliver trailer. After reading and seeing photos of the accident from the Oliver Forum, I am going to buy a rear view that records and a Dash cam. I am leaning towards the Garmin with maxed out memory.

Yes because it records perfect evidence if you are not at fault. Sometimes it malfunctions…

Another consideration is windshield crowding that impairs clear unobstructed view.

Yes to Dash Cams...

Yes get one.
A Dash Cam corroborates your side of the story.
Without video evidence it's your version vs their version which is probably not truthful.
It's an inexpensive and effective solution to explaining what happened to law enforcement and your insurance carrier.
I use a Rexing which is permanently hardwired.

I don't know this as being fact but I was told that if you get in a accident you want turn over the video as soon as possible to the officer at the scene. If used in court it will suspect that the video could have been edited if produced after the accident.
