I'm interested in installing a satellite receiver into the MH and would like to use the portable antenna on a stand. But when I go to the Dish Network signup pages, they require me to schedule an appointment for installation. I don't have a home that I can install a home system in since I live in an apartment. Can I still get the thing installed (myself) in the motorhome without them coming out to do it or am I limited to having to install one at home before I can use one in the RV.
Thanks for any advice.
Dave
P.S. Where do folks get those antennas on a tripod-like stands?
When I got my Direct Tv dish I went on the web and searched for satellite tv dealers, and found there a number of places that will set you up an account and send you the equipment with install directions. No charge for the install.
I have the home account, and would like to find a dish to take with my reciever unit when we travel a longer trips, since I have seen them at Goodwill and such i thought I would watch for one used.
As for the tripod try this--- at CampingWorld.com

I believe RadioShack now sells DISH. There you can buy the reciever and the dish and do the set-up yourself. You will need to activate it over a phone - meaning the DSS reciever will need to be connected to a phone line - when they activate it. DISH also has a RV program - which allows for you to call up and get local channels switched on for the location you are at...more info can be found at the escapees.com website.
Funny thing. I was at Camping World yesterday and they didn't have anything on a tripod in the store. I should've checked the catalog before I went down there.
I'll go check out RS today too. Thanks for the help.
We have DirecTV at home. I have the tripod mount from CW for an extra dish that I have. We simply take one of our receivers from home with us on the road. We still get locals as long as we are in the Spot beam for our locals.
The tripod works OK. I feel it is more flexible that permanently mounting it on the roof. There is a homemade mount at this address:
