I plan (well, maybe "plan" is too strong a word) to head South to Charleston SC and then to the northern gulf coast - FL, AL, MS, LA. Ultimate destination is Big Bend. I read the notes on North Padre Island, so may incorporate that, too. On the return trip, I plan to visit the Austin and San Antonio areas, then make my way up the Natchez Trace. I figure about 6 weeks for this, and starting about mid March unless my feet get too itchy.

You can bet I'll be checking all the threads before I leave.

Will our paths cross?

Pat,
We plan to hit some of the same areas during late March and April. Will travel across the southeast and on down to Big Bend ... and Padre Island if it can be fit in. Two dates are fixed, we will be in Austin, Texas the weekend of April 14 for the Austin Fine Arts Festival and we'll be in Chattanooga , TN the following weekend for the 4 Bridges Festival.
We'll be looking for you!

We started the year off at the Florida Can Opener Rally in Santa Rosa Beach. What a neat time. At the end of this month we are going to attend the Vintage Rally in Montgomery, Texas, and visit a few friends in the Houston area. We also plan to hit the Hiawassee Rally in Georgia. In the spring we plan to do a long trip to the Dakotas. We plan to spend some time in the Bad Lands and do Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. We also plan to Tour around western North Dakota.

Santa Barbara vicinity in the early spring, Norcal rally at Casini Ranch in April, Hood River, Oregon in June, Sierra's in July, "Sag Wagon" duty in August for family bike ride through Glacier Ntl. Park in Montana. From there to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons? Lots of possibilities...until reality and work kick in.

Alaska is our destination for June Thur August. Route will be from Columbus, OH to Glacier NP, Banff and Jasper, Alaskan Highway, Fairbanks, Purdhoe Bay, Denali, Anchorage, Kenai Peninsula, Valdez, Skagway, Juneau, Hyder/Stewart, and back to Columbus. Multiple days in these locations plus many stops along the way. This is our first extended trip since retirement last year. Planning has been going on in earnest for the last two years. Can't wait to get started.

Wife insists on the NC Pottery Trail. Guess we can max out the trailer with Pottery as well as anything else.

Texas to pick up the trailer undergoing mods/repairs; Bristol Motor Speedway in March; Cherry Blossum Rally in April; Planning stages-New England when things heat up this summer. In the meantime and inbetweentime we can be found at Highland Haven Airstream Park nestled up around the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway near Copper Hill, VA. We tend to travel only North and South so this year will be a departure for us. First we will go to see the faces in South Dakota. I have always wanted to visit Mt. Rushmore. Second, we will be taking my Son, his wife and our granddaughter out to Maine to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his through hike of the Appalachia Trail. He will recreate the walk up Mt Katahdin but this time will carry his daughter.
The Maine trip is planned but anyone have tips for South Dakota?

Platte Spring just off FS rd 110 above the South Platte in Colorado. The family sedan has made the trip each year with out damage so I hope to be able to get the Minuet servicable and back to the spring. We like to camp there and hike down to the South Platte below Lake George for some fly fishing. Hope to be able to get out more than once for short trips around Colorado and Wyoming. Get a dry fly wet, shoot a few B&W photos or just watch the clouds go by. Don't need to catch any fish to be happy but hooking into a big brown would be nice.

Glacier National Park...and Yellowstone on the way home.. Our tentative plan is to take the Utah route up and the Colorado-NM route home. We'll also do several weekend road trips to the AZ mountains.
