Denver rv park

Hi All, we are traveling south from the Tetons next week and need to spend several days near Denver to visit old friends. Would appreciate any recommendations for a nice full service RV park within 50 miles of Denver.

Thanks to all.

I have stayed at Clear Creek RV Park in Golden a couple of times, and recall no problems.

Denver covers a lot of square miles and offers a load of traffic, so it would be to your advantage to stay on the side of Denver closest to your friends. So which area do your friends live in?

Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora. Huge off leash dog area (100+ ac). Sites if any available are spaced well apart. Clear Creek Golden was mentioned, nice park area but sites are very close together.

I stayed here years ago. It was so nice I'm surprised they let me stay. Mostly motorhomes at the time. Right off I-70 at Colfax (the big major road) in Golden.

Just thought you might want to know. We have a son in Denver and have visited many times over the years, winter, summer and fall. Of the three we have stayed in I would rate them the following:

#1 Clear Creek in Golden. Small but right on Clear Creek and very short walk to town for dining & drinking. Reasonable rates. Very short drive to Light Rail at Jefferson Cnty complex.

#2 Cherry Creek State Park. Large and spacious sites with plenty of room to roam with. Great views of Western mtns. Also short drive to Light Rail.

#3 Dakota Ridge. Very clean but more expensive by a bit. Close quarters. Also very close to Light Rail in Golden as well.

We always try for a site @ Clear Creek first.

Hope this helps.

Chatfield Reservoir near Littleton, Colorado

800-244-5613 General Camping Information 197 Sites

We lived in Roxborough Park just a few miles south. Very nice lake and also near the South Platte River and Clear Creek to the northeast.

11500 N. Roxborough Park Road, Littleton, Co 80125

Away from the City. Away from Traffic. Good hiking up Clear Creek Canyon to the Southwest. Big Horn Sheep will come by and lick the salt off your arm... no, really. Bicycle it and they will come.

You can fly fish the South Platte and catch trout up to... five... inches. Many under five. Whhoooooo weeee.

A Safeway store just south of the lake. Real convenient. This is right next to the Rocky Mountains and has the sandstone formations standing on edge to the South, a smaller Garden of the Gods. We lived in those... on the side of the mountain. This is also worth visiting. There is a State Park right in them with walking trails.

Showers, restrooms, 'biting trout' in the Lake.

We never camped there as we LIVED out there. Cherry Creek is busy and crowded, but has a nice sandy beach.

After the word is out... no doubt everyone will want to use their coin operated laundry, or go near Safeway where there use to be a laundry. Lots of goodies and few, if any, obnoxious tourists to avoid.

Probably rent a canoe or something, too. If you do not go... others might thank you for leaving an open space for them.

As Eubank noted, a lot will depend on where your friends live. Also, where your next destination will be and how long you plan to be in the area.

Both Chatfield and Cherry Creek are nice, but also very popular - reservations may be hard to come by, but you may be able to get lucky with no-shows and/or cancellations.

This is a bit further out option...

We recently came through Denver in August and meet up with a local friend at St. Vrain State Park in Longmont, Colorado. Some sites are paved and ours was level. Nice walking trails all the way around the park with Mountain Views off in the distance. Sites are spaced far apart too. For being just off I-25 there wasn't too much traffic noise either. We will definitely stay here again when passing though Denver.

St Vrain is a good park but some sites are a long walk from the shower house (nice, but with pay showers).
You are aware of the sky high tolls on the road around the mile high city? A prepaid pass will save you PLENTY, especially with a trailer in tow.

Look at Bear Creek Lake Park near Morrison.
Jefferson County Fair Grounds has some full hookups.

I just returned from a week at the Denver West/Central City KOA. Had a nice pull through patio site. The service & staff were great. It's just far enough from Denver, but still close enough too. Made for nice day trips with beautiful drives to Colorado Springs, Estes Park and Steamboat Springs. Camping World has a huge store 45 minutes away. I ran down there to get a heated water hose as we had two days of snow following 90* weather.

We were only supposed to stay 2 nights and ended up staying Saturday-Friday.

Probably know this, but I believe the state parks in Colorado only take online reservations.
