Will DV campgrounds get busy between Christmas and New Years? Many folks are off work and it seems to be a time of year vacationing picks up.

Furnace Creek fills up Christmas to New Years. For several years I chaperoned a Boy Scout Troop there. We tent camped of course.

I might not have been looking in the right spot, but it appeared the the FHU's at Furnace Creek were all booked.

The national park campground full hook ups at Furnace creek get reserved early. I think it is much more scenic than Stovepipe.
The campground listed under Furnace Creek Ranch, is operated by Xanterra, the park concessionaires. It's a bit dumpy with mostly full time employees living there.
They also operate Fiddlers Cove. Basically it's a large gravel lot. No hook-ups. It works in a pinch if that's all available. FYI...if you get a site that backs up against the trees, get as close to the metal light post as possible. There is a 110v outlet at the bottom of the pole. Furnace Creek Ranch guests get complimentary wifi and pool pass. The pool is great. All others pay $5 per day.
Across the road is the enormous dirt lot for overflow campers.
Again, I think the national park campground is by far the best.
Enjoy!

The "a bit dumpy" campground above is now closed.

There are some good dispersed campsites as well-- both within the park anywhere it's not specifically prohibited, and also just south of the park towards Shoshone, CA on Furnace Creek Road. Most of the land outside the park belongs to the BLM, which also allows dispersed camping if its not posted to the contrary.

Beatty and Pahrump are your best bets for reasonable fuel costs. We like to dry camp at Sunset CG, across the highway from Furnace Creek. It's just a big parking lot, but you meet an interesting cross section of folks. We reconnect with many of the same folks year after year. With the geezer pass, it's a horrible $6.00 per night.

Texas Springs, up the hill is a no generators zone for those who don't like being around them.

Both have toilet facilities and water available, with dump stations nearby.

Fiddler's Camp Ground at Furnace Creek Resort cancelled the full hookup reservations that we had for the end of January. They called a couple of weeks ago with the news. They are rebuilding their campground electrical system. I've since heard that it is a decent campground but full of resort employees that are active into the wee hours.

Any reports of current diesel fuel prices in Furnace Creek? We're going to be there for a week and would like to fuel up locally while there.

Death Valley

According to the gas buddy app, the current diesel price in Furnace Creek CA is $3.91.
Kevin

Edit to add that this compares to next closest locations in Pahrump of about $2.39.

We were unable to get a campsite for the weekend of the rally but we'll be in the Furnace Creek campground from January 23 - 27.

I stayed in the Furnace Creek RV last April for a few days. Temps were in the 100* range, so I went with full hookups for the AC. I reserved a spot that had screens and plants that had some privacy as shown on Xanterra's web site.
When I was shown my reserved spot it was occupied, and was shunted to this beauty shown. I was left to park my rig alone and managed to install a momento of my time there.
Be glad them hotel managers may fix some of the RV sites. Mostly over grown with dead limbs, a real fire trap.
I asked the front desk for a chain saw and got a fireman/ex county sheriff for a accident report. Talking with the head of the Fire Dept resort safety guy, his end of the conversation was turning to defending the resort in a law suit. Across the street from the FD the grounds were manicured to perfection, but the employee housing where they stuck me wasn't

Thank you Xanterra for such a lasting memory

Is this the Furnace Creek Resort Fiddlers Campground or the Furnace Creek Campground run by the National Park Service?

Are you looking for a spot for the Greater LA Airstream Club Rally from the 26th to the 29th?

PM me.

If you plan to be out touring this huge park in your TV, it's not a bad idea to keep gas in a spare gas can-- safely, of course. Distances are huuuuge.

If you want to visit some of the more remote places accessible via rocky roads, NPS recommends bring an extra (second) spare tire.

If you are in a Park Service CG at Furnace Creek, $5 will get you into the resort's natural warm spring swimming pool and its showers, plus they advertise the world's lowest-elevation golf course.

I lived there for three years in the early '80s and I'm looking forward to going back and spending some time there!

Third option, Furnace Creek Ranch RV, part of the resort, on resort grounds thru the Furnace Creek Ranch portal. Left to right from the road, Furnace Creek Ranch RV, Fiddlers camp, between the ranch and gas station, then the NPS camp behind the visitors center.
