Cross Canada trip

Next week we are travelling from southwestern Ontario to the Okanagan area in British Columbia. With rv parks closed to transit rvers in Ontario we will be using alternative sites - Walmarts, Flying J,...... Has anyone had current experience staying in Sault St Marie On, and Ignace. Also are rv sites under similar restrictions in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta?

In Manitoba you should have no problems. A great place to stay in Brandon Manitoba is BryMar Campground, just east of Brandon. If you stop there, say "Hi" to Bryan, the owner, and tell him Chris sent you. We have had a couple of Airstream Unit rallies there. Great people, and a good community.

We stayed at the Sault St Marie KOA in 2018, and it was fine. One of the better KOA's we've been to. I'm in Calgary, and the Provincial parks are Alberta residents only. I don't believe there are similar restrictions on private campgrounds, but sites are at a premium because many are blocked off in the interest of distancing . . .

If you are still in the US, best check that the border crossings into Canada are now open, as last I heard they were closed but for essential travelers.

Look for small town municipal campgrounds. Some are open, but they are enforcing distancing by blocking off every other site. Bring cash for self-registration.

I spent a night at the Husky truck stop at Sault Ste Marie once. I got permission from the gas station cashier who put me at the far end of the yard at 10pm. It was completely jammed when I pulled out at 5:30 am. There was a tractor-trailer parked mere inches from my trailer! So itís a possibility, but ask first.

I do part of this trip fairly often. Walmart is your friend in Sudbury, Sault St Marie, Ignace, and Thunder Bay. Lodge Lake Rest area works in a pinch. The boat launch in Terrace Bay works really well. Town and Country RV park on the east side of Winnipeg is a good place to dump and get water. Stick to Walmarts until Calgary. It's easy to do with only one night in a real campground. Jim
