Corps of Engineers Camp Hawes Creek, McCormick SC
Airforum Members,
Just putting a plug in for the Corp of Engineers Hawes Creek campground just out of McCormick SC. IIRC the CoE has about 13 camps on this lake between SC and GA. Memorial weekend we got a lakeside spot at a great price and the camp was very nice, 30A w/water, no extras, nice size site, interesting almost private. If you are a boating family this is one of those places to look for. Fishing, skiing, jet ski's, pontoon boats etc. You can launch and tie you boat up right at almost all of the sites at Hawes Creek. It is on Lake Thurmond a bit NW of Augusta GA and is worth a look for a quieter camp, not a privatly owned camp full of gotta do it $tuff. First time I have seen Bald Eagles in SC (only been here 8 years) also quite a view at the dam at the south end of the lake. In the lake pic the AS is in the center, no not the one on the left center that is a 40' 5'er, more center. Our neighbor had a pontoon boat and took us for an afternoon cruise, real nice.
Also for an as of right now unproven reason, this was the most relaxing (read towing) drive with the AS that I have had. All new or newer running gear, yup axles, tires, actuator, controller, truck tires and one nice job by my tiresmithy on the truck alignment. But my unknown money was on one other homemade modification that I feel more securely linked the TV to the hitch and AS. But, no proof.
