Construction of a Rally
I would like to put together a Rally in Walla Walla. I have ideas and a upcoming meeting with the tourism board to brainstorm it, but think I need to talk to those who have done it too.
Who out there can help me with this one?

Ask the experts: Janet & Gary, wizards of the Area 33 rallies and the four Beverly Beach Bashes - all great success stories. It isn't difficult, but allow enough time for people to read about it/think about it/decide to go. What time of year do you have in mind? Probably don't want to compete with the WBCCI rally during the the Pendelton Round Up. Darol

If you plan it, they will come...
If you pick a date & location then put the word out...some will come and others will have an excuse.
Just go for it!

Darol, How do I get a hold of Janet and Gary please?
Shari, thanks for the words too! I was hoping to get the word out - is there advantages to including the WBCCI? Im not bothered either way - Im all about showing the streamers a good time.

Competition is a good thing. It provides alternatives. Find a place and a date that works for the place and you. Avoid holiday weekends if you are in a high traffic area. If people are likly to have a long (more than 5 hours) drive allow for Thursday arrival as an option if possible. Don't feel like it's all up to you if people have a good time. Are we talking forum rally here. Long ride for us but who knows what the future holds ... (they don't have a shadow icon)
Some of the best rallies are the ones with four to 8 units.

I may be wrong, but I think you can find a very detailed thread on this forum about rally preparation. In fact, Shari, were you the one who initiated it or contributed to it? Craig and Mary, try our search feature and I believe you'll find a lot of information to help you. ~G

Janet is Janet. Okay, that was too easy...
Here are a couple of threads. They weren't sticky in the Forum rally subforum but I've made them sticky now.

Pay attention to the announcement threads in the rally subforum and the rally calendar. Good writeups in each location may be a little different but otherwise share a lot of the same information. And include cross referencing links to the other as well as providing a link to the campground reservation system (if applicable). Let the members make and be responsible for their own reservations. Reserving far enough in advance to get your group gathered in the same spot is something to work out with a park or whatever. This is done many different ways from what I've seen.
Take it easy on yourself -- those who want to come will. Plan plenty of empty time but also set aside a period for trailer tours and have a Sat nite potluck with some fun activities -- music or movie projected on an Airstream? Other ideas out there?
Small is good for starters.

Great advice, again!
I think this is the exact same reply that Shari gave me a couple of years ago when I was thinking about putting a rally together. Dead Horse 3 is only 7 months away...

I think another good way to learn how to do it is volunteer as co host. I am getting trained or broke in during the WDCU installation rally. I did not volunteer however, I was forced into action by our soon to be President Rob Baker. He told me it would be good experience for when I host my own next year.
I have to agree with Over59 about the micro rallies. We went to one in June called the Crawfish Festival. There were three units there, the Watung Unit, the New England Unit, and the WDCU. Three units and three trailers. We had the best time and made some great friends.
