I enjoy back road travel since I am not in a big hurry. Would appreciate some advice using back roads across West Virginia and Virginia heading from Ohio towards Colonial Williamsburg. I am looking at either Rt 33 or Rt 50 crossing the mountains. Searching the forum resulted in some pretty old threads. Any comments or opinions based on recent travel would be appreciated. I will be towing a 27FB.
Alternative would be to jump on the Interstates to get over the mountains then hit the back roads again. This is what I usually do to cross the Rockies.
US50 through WVa to Winchester VA is very twisty. Steep downhills with hairpins at the bottom. Beautiful country, but I suspect you'll not want to do it again.
US33 is very similar.
I would (and do) take I-64. The interstate is very beautiful there. I prefer my US highways on flatter ground.
