Chicago to Muncie IN, best route?

Would appreciate some input from locals or those who have travelled from Chicago burbs to Muncie IN.

What is the best route to take, I355 South to I80 East to I65 South to I865/I465 East to I69 Northeast? Have never been thru or near Indianapolis, how are the major highways?

Will be towing our Airstream.

Thanks!

Been through Indiana many times. If you want to see lots of trucks and get pasted by trucks and get there fast go the route you suggested. If you want to go the best route take the state hwys and see the countryside. You might come through a small town and want to stop and see something. I have never been disappointed when I did this. Even got a little education along the way.If you don't have time go the fast way. All depends how much time you have.

Avoid I-80

I-80 from I-55 until the other side of Joliet is a parking lot in both directions. I would avoid it . They are doing road and bridge work in Joliet and the backups are unreal. We got caught in this mess going to Michigan. One hour to go 4 miles. Coming back I dropped down to Rt 2 in Indiana which turns into Rt 17 in Illinois. I hate this area even when everything is open and running. Seems like the steel haulers manage to wreck and kill someone a couple times a week.

I'll leave it to the Chicago experts to get you out of Illinois, but once you get to I-65 in Indiana go South. Take SR 28 East. It is is good road.

Once you get near Muncie there are several options depending on your exact destination.

I live about 15 miles away. Let me know if I can be of further help.
