Chicago To Banff roadtrip

We are planing a trip out west starting at Chicago to Banf/Calgary and then south through the Yellowstone area back through the Dakotas.
Any helpful tips would be most welcome.
We are planning this for the first 3 weeks this September.

Canmore Alberta is 15 minutes East of Banff, one of my favourite places, coffee & panini at Mountain Mercado and unreal pizza and salads at Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company. Camping is great in Kananaskis Country which is south/ east of Banff & Canmore by about an hour.

On your way back, be sure to stop and stay at Devils Tower. KOA has a beautiful campground, right at the base of the tower.
"WELIKIT" campground near Custer, SD is another beautiful spot.

Go through Glacier park on the way south. Really not out of your way. Come in through Yellowstone west entrance and exit out of the east. Hit the Jackson Hole and the Tetons before you enter. We took this trip many years ago.
