Chapel Hill to Asheville?

We are leaving Chapel Hill moving west towards Asheville after 6 months here at Duke. Any ideas of great places to stay?

If you have puppies, stop at 4paws Kingdom. Super pet friendly no children. May not be your cup of tea but we and our Leonbergers love it. Smaller campground but it's our local go to to get away. Just outside Rutherfordton.

We love puppies but ours has passed.

Thanks and I know it is great for you and your puppies. We miss our puppy and will see down the road about another or not.

I understand. Sometimes it takes a while to get over living without these wonderful creatures.

We like Four Paws too. Mama Gertie’s in Swannanoa is a campsite we enjoyed a couple of times.

Try Mountain Stream RV Park, https://www.mountainstreamrvpark.com/, one of the nicest places we have stayed.

Lakewood RV Resort in Flat Rock, 20 minutes south of AVL down I-26 is a very well maintained park with a nice mix of overnight, monthly, annual and permanent sites. It is within 10 minutes of historic downtown Hendersonville, shopping, grocery stores, hiking and the Flat Rock Playhouse. Lots to do and see!

I also would recommend Mountain Stream RV Park. Nice place to stay run by nice people and it's close to many great sights.

Where did you stay in Chapel Hill? My wife and I live here and it’s kinda sparse for RV camping.

We make this trip often since we live in Durham and our son goes to UNC Asheville. I'd give a +1 for Mama Gertie's. It's hilly, but beautiful.

If you're looking for flat, KOA Asheville is easy to get into and has a couple of lakes you can camp next to.

We stayed at Spring Hill Park. Great owner, many full-time residents and a few spots for football and other visitors. Also guys like my husband that need assistance from Duke for medical needs. We are on our way back but was not planned. Have to be back by Monday for possibly more surgery. Now I am looking for a spot returning east of Asheville for tomorrow night and of course everyone is booked.

Tom Johnson in Marion is east of Asheville, maybe further than you want to go. Has a ton of sites in their rally field. Not particularly a great place, although Alumalina is there, but is along your way and may not be full.
