Centralia Balloon Fest
Hello All,
The wife and I were wanting to find a campground near Centralia, IL for the Balloon Fest this year, August 21,22, 23. Has anybody been to this festival, or are going, or would like to go? And, are there any campgrounds closer than Lake Carlyle? The little wife likes hot air balloons. Would love to go to the big one out west, but in my line of work the timing is terrible. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Centralia Balloon Fest 2009, Centralia, Illinois
Thanks

search
I did a Google search with "Centralia, IL+camping" in the search window and got alot of suggestions. I don't know anything about this festival but it looks like fun. Why don't you organize a forums rally somewhere nearby? Just a thought.

This would be a great rally to attend. I wish we could make it, but we are taking a trip down to TN to visit Sugar Foot and see some sights. Perhaps we may be able to figure out a way to attend both if you make it into a rally.

I thought that it would make a great rally too. We can only go for Saturday night due to a football game on Friday night, otherwise I would try to get something together. I checked and found a small campground near Centralia, but it is full already. It looks like the next closest would be the ACE parks on Lake Carlyle or down near Mt. Vernon. If you know of others, let me know.
Thanks

Centralia area campgrounds
I don't know of many good campground options around Centralia. Mt. Vernon has a Quality Times RV Park yet it doesn't get lots of good reviews. RV Park Reviews :: Mount Vernon, Illinois ( IL ) - RV Parks and Campground Reviews
You wouldn't be any closer than Carlyle Lake, but Whittington Woods near Benton is an option. The owners are great hosts and new owners. The campground continues to get very good reviews reflecting the work they've put into the property. RV Park Reviews :: Whittington, Illinois ( IL ) - RV Parks and Campground Reviews
We would drive the 11 miles or so south of Mt Vernon on Interstate 57 to stay at Whittington Woods Campground. It's in the Rend Lake recreation area.
We're planning a stay at Whittington Woods as we drive back home from the Cape to Cairo caravan and go to the CedarHurst Craft Fair in Mt. Vernon Sept 13.
Enjoy the balloon festival!

Thanks for the input. Whittington Woods does sound nice. Coles Creek, on the east side of Lake Carlyle, looks to be the closest and does offer some full hookups. Will have to get the wifes opinion.
Thanks
