Question Camping experiences in south AL, GA, FL (panhandle) and SC

Renovating a 73 AS and I plan on taking a trip later this summer from Louisiana through south AL, GA, panhandle (north) FL and SC and I just was curious about which state parks or commercial parks are recommended. What are your experiences in this part of US.

I would wait until September or October when it cools down a bit.

Yeah, that's funny. I'm reading about all of our friends on the forums from up north talking about getting their AS's out of storage to begin camping; I have had mine out all winter and enjoying the cool weather; I am thinking that It is starting to get a little warm....

However....
In GA;
Stephen Foster State park on the okeefenokee is good.
Blythe Island Regional Park in brunswick, ga
Crooked River State Park, St. Mary's, GA
Skidaway Island State Park, Savannah, GA
In SC:
Modoc Campground (corps of engineers) Modoc, SC (above Augusta, GA)
Hunting Island State Park
Edisto Beach State Park

Here Are pics of Modoc Campground (highly recommend if you are in the area)

We haven't met a FL State Park we haven't loved, and somewhere in your travel plans should be Topsail (on the panhandle). We stayed at the Wal-Mart for a night in Mobile several years ago - not bad! Seriously, in SW GA check out Blanton Creek (a bit north of Columbus, GA), which is a GA Power campground, was fabulous (picture attached). May be a bit north for your plans...

We liked the Emerald Beach RV Park in Navarre, FL when we took our TT to The Villages, FL in 2009. It's right on the Santa Rosa Sound, and for a few bucks extra you can get a site that gives you an ocean view out your window.

Nice folks, cable, Wireless Internet, all the usual stuff, and reasonable rates. We wound up staying there a week, instead of the one night we had planned on.

You gotta listen to this guy's story, by the way. Typical RV day!

Last October we camped on Dauphin Island, Alabama at the Pelican Nest RV Resort And Campground. Directly across the street from a beautiful white sand public beach.

Dauphin Island is beautiful and we really enjoyed this park.

Ft. Pickens Campground in the Gulf Islands National Seashore just west of Pensacola Beach is a great place. The setting in the park is beautiful plus you have Pensacola Beach and the City of Pensacola nearby. You can view all the individual sites in the campground and reserve online at www.reservation.gov.

Top Sail State Park in FL is one of the nicest state parks we have seen. Kolomoki Mounds in south GA is nice with some easy hiking. In north GA the Top of Georgia Airstream Park is not to be missed

Rivers End (city owned) on Tybee Island off the coast near Savanah is nice, as well Anastasia State Park off the coast near St Augustine if you are that far south. As mentioned several times Top Sail (with sewer connections) is very nice, as well as Henderson and Grayton Beach State Parks all in the Destin FL area. A little farther east is St Joseph Peninsula State Park near Port St Joe. Be aware that this park is in a remote area, so be sure your pantries are well stocked.

The web address for the Florida State Parks is one of the best state park web sites and can be found at www.floridastateparks.org. Also reservation can be made at www.reserveamerica.com.

Here are some good links to find Corps of Eng. / fed type campgrounds. There are more than you would think.
Also State link too.

We plan on using: Tickfaw SP and Lake Fausse SP in Lousisiana for a future trip. Also Hunting Island and Crooked River as already mentioned.

We have stayed at all of these, you can't go wrong with thee selections.

Grand Isle SP in Louisiana is another good one. The drive down is slow but interesting, with houses on stilts on both sides of the road and cheap, fresh shrimp for sale every couple of blocks. Beautiful beach, new bathhouses.

Maggie

We have been known to eat shrimp so often down there that we have gotten sick of it and had to swear off for awhile----if you can imagine.

If you make it by the South Georgia Coast, give me a shout... I can get huge shrimp right off the boat! not much fresher than that!

Try Mystic Springs Cove Airstream Park. 25 mi north of Pensacola in FL panhandle. Only $11/night. Owned by the local WBCCI club. Only Airstreams allowed. Rural area off nice 4 lane highway.
