Campgrounds near Appleton, WI ???

We are planning a trip at the end of July to Appleton, Wisc for my Army Engineers re-union. Looking around I don't find many choices for campgrounds nearby. So far there is a private campgrounds about 16 miles north at DePere and a state Park about 16 miles south, along the lake, in Sherwood. Can anyone recommend any others ??? How 'bout these 2 ????

Thanks all, Happy New Year and see ya on the road sometime.

We stayed near the AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh which is very close to Appleton. This is an old airport that hosts an antique fly-in airshow each year and maintains the airport as a museum. The museum is fabulous--a throwback to the early days of aviation. The RV park right down the road is old, but clean and friendly. There might be facilities on the air museum grounds themselves. I can't remember the name of the park, but if you go to the AirVenture website, you will find it. I would call the museum for information. Have a good trip.

High Cliff State Park is the one in Sherwood. I have not camped there, but have spent many happy hours in the park, biking, running, hiking, and snowshoeing. I have also visited friends who were camping there and they seemed to be quite pleased with the facilities.

At one time the park area was home to a limestone quarry and kilns. You can still see both of you hike the right trails.

I live a few miles away in Neenah, and would be happy to get more detailed information if you have specific questions.

Thanks. Appreciate the offer. Also looking at a private CG north of Appleton that looks good also. It's about the same distance away from the re-union site and they have water on site as well as electric. Looking into options along with a friend going. High Cliffs sounds as if it's a nice place and looks good on google earth so we'll see.

Thanx again for your offer.

High Cliff SO is one of our finest parks. Make reservations. We have two really nice county campgrounds (Lake Emily and Jordan Park) but they would probably be to far (50miles) away.Enjoy.

Roger you should make reservations NOW. The end of July is Airventure 2014, July 28 - Aug 3, and you may not find any space available within a hundred miles of Oshkosh. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up Gary. High Cliff's SP will not begin reservations until 1 April. So if we decide to stay there it will need to wait. IF we decide on the private CG then that's a bit more flexible. But, I appreciate the thought and will keep that in mind. In either case we hope to be deciding soon.

Thanks all,
