Campgrounds in St Augustine, FL, and Charleston, SC
As I will be needing a five to seven day stay in St Augustine, FL, and the same in Charleston, SC in the upcoming months, I am open to suggestions regarding good campgrounds...Would like full hook up, can do with 30 Amp but prefer 50 Amp.
Thoughts on what is good in either of these areas?

Very hot & humid here for the next 2 months, presuming you're running double air units so look for the 50 Amp service. Can't help with location as I'm on the other side of the state.

I stayed a few days at Anastasia State Park just south of St Augustine two years ago. I think there are 30 amp sites only. Can't remember it they were full hookup or had to use a dump station. I know there was water & electric on my site.
Wifi was at the beach access area, none at my site.

James Island County Park near Charleston is very nice, and about 10 minutes from downtown.
Don't know if they have 50 amp, tho.

St. Augustine & Charleston
Anastasia SP near St. Augustine has electric & water. Nice state park with beach access. There are many other private RV parks in the area. Check RV Park Reviews - Trusted Reviews of Campgrounds & RV Parks
Our children live in the Charleston area. James Island County Park ($38) has EWS but difficult to get a reservation. Oak Plantation (45) gets high reviews. We have stayed at KOA in Mount Pleasant. But no more. $66.00 is too high cost for us.
State Parks with beach access are Huntington Beach, Hunting Island and Edisto but are not in Charleston. All are great!

I live in Mt Pleasant and 5 minutes from the KOA. I have stayed at both the James Island County Park and the KOA in Mt Pleasant. Depending on where you need to be in the Charleston area, either are very acceptable. Scenery and site privacy will put JICP at the top but MTP KOA is in the middle of everything including Isle of Palms and Sullivans Island with restaurants abounding. Downtown Charleston is just a short hop away with the new bridge. Hope that helps.

Agree completely with James Island County Park. We have used the park for the last three or four years and can confirm that 50 amps are available.
Over Christmas the park has a wonderful and popular Christmas light show which makes advance reservations essential.
We like the staff who are very friendly and helpful. There are numerous bike trails and as Maggie noted, the park is close to Charleston. The campground offers a shuttle bus for a nominal charge. We used it to enjoy the day in Charleston and then to return at the end of the day. It solved the problem of where to park The Big Truck.
Overall it's a lovely place.

We have stayed at the James Island County Park and enjoyed it very much. You are close enough to downtown Charleston and only about 10-15 minutes from Foley Beach. This beach isn't quite as commercialized as Isle of Palms, a bit older community. We visited the KOA at Mt. Pleasant and we must have been there at a bad time. We both remarked at the time that it looked like a transient trailer park. We give our votes to James Island.

Have used the KOA in Mt Pleasant several times. It is a very nice park with a great dog park, fishing lake, hiking trail and good facilities but is pricey because of its close proximity to Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms beaches. Later found an older but still nice KOA in Ladson, SC near North Charleston. Last time I used it was half the cost of Mt. Pleasant. Both are easy to find and get in and out of. Time to down town Charleston on I 26 is about the same for both and depends on time of day.

North Beach Resort, St. Augustine--very nice sites, roomy, shaded, easy in and out, with access to the beach and the bay. There is a great restaurant just north on the bay side.
James Island Campground, Charleston--county run, very nice, large and shady sites, bicycle trails, dog park, close to town.

Thank you, thank you, thank you
I have stayed at Anastasia State Park, Ocean Grove, about five years or more ago and appreciate the updates. Never been to any in Charleston so I will plan on one recommended.
Thanks to all,

We really liked the KOA at Mt Pleasants. Very nice and clean...plus close to many of the places we wanted to be.

Not far from Charleston, check out Colleton State Park: Charleston, SC and Colleton SP - Casa Rocinante
Givhans Ferry State Park is probably also worth a look.

At Colleton State Park, "each site is packed sand and has individual water and electrical hookups." The dump station is on your way out.

Born and raised in downtown Charleston...still own our house there, but unless you have a 16' Bambi you're probably too large for our "driveway"...(I put that in quotes because when our house was built the carriage house was for horses and buggies and cars were decades away)...I'm a Californian now and I have our place in Charleston and my home in Myrtle Beach but I've been dying to take my moho cross country and there's no way in hell I'd drive mine through downtown Charleston EVER EVER EVER (and I can maneuver some pretty long vehicles...I do tow a 38' boat on a 45' trailer...and a 36' moho with a hummer toad) but not in a million years would I ever do anything but make a u-ie at the Ashley Cooper bridge....lol. Long story short I'd also be interested in opinions on great campgrounds in Charleston. I know most of the good ones in Myrtle as that's where we went when I was a child before we built our beach house. Have a great time in my home state I miss with all my heart!
