California 395 from Ridgecrest to Lone Pine

Am towing the AS that way next week. Got a very stern warning from a friend (who tows a SOB) about the winds on that road.

Any suggestions?

Don

I've driven that route a few times on the way to and from Death Valley. Sometimes there's wind, sometimes not, mostly not. I don't recall ever thinking too much about it.

High Winds in Owens Valley

I was in Lone Pine over the Christmas holiday and on the day after Christmas I left to head home to Orange County.

I didn't hit high winds until I got down towards Mojave near the 14 in the Antelope Valley. I tow a 16' Bambi with a Jeep Liberty; with the sway control and equalizer set up I was able to stay on the road while big rigs and box trailers we're pulled over and parked.

Typically the winds from the 395 / 14 juctions towards Lone Pine when they do blow aren't too bad. Once you get up towards Bishop it typically gets less windy.

I had a Casita before the AS and they both do really well in cross winds. Just keep the speed down and watch out for those gusts.

We were in that area a few times in the past 3 years with a 29' SOB motorhome. We just took it easy (55 mph) and didn't have any issues with the wind even on the days it was blowing.

I'd just monitor the weather reports and plan accordingly. Good luck and enjoy!

Sounds like that Paul Simon song,

" I get all the news I need on the weather report..."

Thanks everyone. My life has taught me folks seem to like to give you alarmist advice, I'm sure I'll be just fine...
