Boston Area - Harold Parker State Forest, MA
Hi,
I am looking for a place to leave my Airstream for about 4 days while I visit a friend in Somerville, MA this summer. I found Harold Parker State Forest on Reserve America for $12/night, and was wondering if anyone is familiar with it. The longest sites are 40 feet. Will I have any trouble pulling a 30 footer through there, and is it an area you would feel comfortable leaving an unattended AS for a few days. Any info most appreciated.
Thanks
Dale

Cheap or safe
Are you looking for a cheap place to park it or a good safe camp ground?
The unit had a rally in Ayer at the Minuteman campground which would put you within 40 minutes of Somerville.
I'd be concernd about dropping my rig off at a state campground and leaving it there unatteded. IMHO.

how about courtesy parking?
I am about 2 hours from Somerset, in CT off Rt.395. Surely we have a member closer who has room for you to park for a few days?
If not, you are welcome to leave your AS here if it is convenient for you

I've never camped there (Harold Parker SP) but we drove through that campground several years ago considering it for camping and ended up crossing it off our list. It's very crowded, mostly tent campers very tightly packed. We got the impression that it was a temporary home for some of the city's summer migrant workers. More like urban camping and not really a place to leave a trailer unattended.
If you're military (or retired military), there's a campground at Hanscom AFB that is a reasonable cost and very close to Rte 2 to get into Somerville.

I have to agree. I camped at HPSP many years ago, you don't want to park your rig there unattended.

We are about 1 hr from Somerville...you are welcome here.
Another popular place is http://www.normandyfarms.com/.
More of a resort than camping, but it would be close and safe. It aint cheap...

Thank you BillTex and Roamin' Cat, I really appreciate your offers. The trip isn't on for sure yet, but I agree. Leaving my trailer unattended at a state park would scare the heck out of me. Courtesy parking or a high end RV park would probably be the smart way to go. I’ll keep checking around. Thanks to all you posters for the information. It is very helpful.

Another option, on the north shore in Salem, is Winter Harbour. It is located right on Salem Harbor, so it is very nice. And you could take the ferry to Boston...
