We drove right by you guys yesterday from our weekend in Snowflake. I came down with a stomach flu and didn't want to spread it or else we would have stopped by to say, hi. It would've been nice to meet everyone in person. Your spot looks terrific.

I did get some primo Airstream parts over the weekend, however, from a couple who is parting out their '74 Airstream.

Colcord ridge campground

Well the dispersed camping at Colcord Ridge has come to an end.
Over the past 2 years the Forest service has slowly been working to make it a improved campground. They have the bath rooms done and many of the sites now have tables and fire rings but not all.
The new campground has 16 sites that are along about 1/3 mile long road that runs down the top of the ridge. They are situated in a mixed forest of Ponderosa Pine,White and Douglas fir.The smaller sites and bathrooms are on the North side of the road and the larger sites are on the South side of the road. Most of the sites are well a part from each other and most will hold at least 2 trailers.
As the $$$ comes along the Forest Service will be getting more tables and putting in more fire rings. Then will come the water and trash bins and then the FREE USE will be gone and we will have to pay.

Photo 1. The new bath rooms
Photo 2. The new fire rings
Photo 3. The damage done by the Dude Fire a few years ago when it went around the East end and North side of Colcord Ridge missing the campground.

Well, that's too bad, Jim. But at least you were able to enjoy it "in the raw" so to speak...and free. Is it going to be called "Colcord Ridge Campground" or something else? Do you know when this officially becomes a paid campground?

Time to find new places to disperse camp on the Rim, it looks like! We know that if anyone can, it will be you!

Do not know of any plans to change the name and I do not think the Forest service know when they will charge for it.
But charging $$ will come to pass.
You should come up this week end and join us.
Hay the big motorgrader just now came and graded the road thru the campground. Our tax $$$ hard at work.Hope thay graded the Young road.

Yeah, but who really needs campgrounds. Boondocking in my book really doesn't involve campgrounds, if you know what I mean, though there are some really nice campgrounds in Arizona.

Mike...yes, know what you mean...but at the same time, campgrounds serve an important function and a lot of folks very well...folks who don't want to (or can't) camp at the boondocking level...and who otherwise would not get out and enjoy the forests and great out of doors. And you're right, AZ offers some great campgrounds!

Concord Ridge

Photo 1 Yesterday the Forest Service came in and graded all the roads in the campground.Today they were back at 7 AM to remove some dead trees and trimmed all the overhanging limbs so now the big boys with the toy haulers can get in with out the AC being removed from their roofs by the tree limbs.
I went down the hill yesterday to check out Airplane Flat's campground and take a look at the big fish in the Canyon Creek fish hatchery.Photo 2 and 3.To bad they do not let you fish in there for the big ones in photo 4 but you can feed them for 25 cents.
The Airplane flat campground is nice with it's 12 sites but most are best for small trailers or tents.
Even here at 7500 feet the temperature the last week has been on the warm side 81 for the high and in the mid 60's at night but it should cool down by the end of the week into the mid 70's in the day and mid 50's at night. But it all is better than the 110+ down in the valley of the sun.

Richard,
You left Jan and the trailer up on the rim for the week? What a nice guy.

All most the same

Notice that the photo's here look very much like the one's in posting 101.
Only the flowers that Richard came back with and the Shimp plater that Min made have been added. This was happy hour last night while we where cooking the filet mignons.Only the formal dress ware is missing.
Now this is boondocking at it's best.
Photo 3. Is Richard with the Humming Birds.Just what a 4 CU President should look like.
Sorry more of you good Airstreamers could not join us.You all have a nice Labor Day weekend.

We were totally hammered with rain last night. 2 Airstreams and no leaks, what are the odds? The sun is in and out today, just another great day boondocking with Jimmini.

Remember if you camp with Jim and Min, you will put on a few pounds. Great steaks one night, home made chili last night and this morning was Min's breakfast special. I think I need a nap.

Man that is so nice. Wish I were there right now. Knowing you all are up there, just makes it just that much hotter down here.
