Spring break is just around the corner and you can bet we are going somewhere. Considered heading up your way for the weekend but got reminded that we have a wedding to go to.

We ARE headed in your general direction, soon...waiting for a replacement contact lens...then a leisurely stroll out IH 10, stopping here and there...don't know the exact itinerary, but, then, never have...save a sunset or two for us.

A little info on Roosevelt Lake recreation area.
(1)The lake campgrounds are at about 2200 feet so it is cool in the Winter and HOT in the summer 100F +. Best time early spring and late fall. This is a good place to be when Quartzsite start to get warm and it is still to cold up on the rim or White mountains.
(2)There are 4 main campgrounds from the west they are Indian Point 51 sites. You ford Tonto creek to get to it and this can not be done when the creek is up.There are no shades or tables there.Cell phone service.
Then there is Cholla campground 182 sites with shades and tables.Modern baths and showers.I think the best sites here are 18,19,51 86 ,87 and 176.Cell phone service.
Next is Wind Hill campground with 339 sites. Here I think the one up on the hill side are best some have nice views of the lake and are farther apart. This campground also has modern baths and showers.Spotty cell phone service here.
The last one is Schoolhouse campground 156 sites.Modern bath and shouwers.NO Cell phone service here.
(3) Unlike most campgrounds the Roosevelt Lake recreation area uses a daily pass system. If you are using any of the Boat ramps, campgrounds, picnic sites or parking lots you have to have a daily pass. The Tonto National monument does not require one, it has it own fees. You can buy them at the Visitor center/ ranger stations and some of the stores in Tono Basin. They are $6.00 per 24 hours and $ 4.00 for each 24 hours for each watercraft. They are 1/2 price if you have Golden Age type cards. You can buy as many at one time as you like. They are like a scratch lottery ticket you validate them by scratching the time, year, month and day off put them in your front window and they are good for 24 hours from that time.
(4) Quiet time is 10:00PM to 6:00 AM.Generators may be run from 6:00AM till 10:00 PM.EXCEPT from 1 Jun thru 31 Aug when generators maybe run 24 hours a day.Coati loop at Windy Hill campground generators maybe run 24 hours a day all year.
There is a good grocery store at Tonto Basin with gas, butcher shop, deli and Bank in it.Plus other shops in that small comunity.
There is Wall Mart and Safeway store at Globe right at US 60 and AZ 188.

Ps

PS
There are water taps in all the campgrounds BUT NONE that you can connect a hose to.
Same goes for the only bump station that is across from Cholla campground the hoses on the street side will not reach your curb side black tank clean out and you can not connect a hose to them.NO drinking water at dump station.

On the road again

004
At last the new hip is well enough to get back on the road again.
So on Monday the 6th of July 2009 we are off to Sinkhole campground at Willow Springs lake,That is 31 miles east of Payson AZ on highway 260.
If any Airstreamers would like to stop by that is where we will be the next few weeks.

Jim, Good to hear that you are on the move again!

Is that campground in the Reserve USA system? Jan and I were looking for a place to camp one weekend in July...

Ricards...Sink Hole is an Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest Campground.. One quarter mile north of State Highway 260 towards Willow Springs Lake on Forest Road 149. Forest Road 149 is located approximately 1 mile east of the Rim Visitor Information Station or 25 miles west of Heber, Arizona...sounds nice: Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests - Recreational Activities .... Paved roads, no hookups, drinking water available...

No first come first served.
Aspen canpground at Woods canyon lake is and so is Canyon point.Look at www.fs.fed.us/r3/ it shows the ones on res system.
I think you will find that most of the campground on the res system are booked for Fri and Sat most of the summer But have sites Sun thru Thur. All have some first come sites.
