Southern California is pretty big, can you be more specific about desired location and interests? I have boondocked all over, but favorite areas were outside of Joshua Tree near the south entrance, mostly because of easy access to the park, Mojave desert for sheer solitude, and area around death valley. Tons of other options depending on whether you want mountains, desert, water, etc.

My 5 & 8yr old kids are distance learning. I’m working from home. ...just need to get away... a lockdown is one thing. Doing it in sub freezing temps is another! We are staying in White Sands for a week, then stopping in Phoenix for a couple weeks on our way to S. California. We are going to see friends in Thousand Oaks for a few days. Harvest Host a couple Vineyards, check out the San Diego area for a few days then spend some time off the grid. We enjoy Harvest Hosts, and disconnecting for 2 or 3 days. I’m not prepared to be away from full hookups for more than 2 or 3 days. ...especially with the younger kiddos! Just looking for some good boon-docking options/BLM where we can stay 2 or 3 days at a time. Peaceful time alone in nature!

I better add that I do need internet! I have a WeBoost and 300gb available on my AT&T plan. ...I still need to be close enough in for the We-boost to grab a signal.

With kids try to avoid the places where RV pirates and thieves claim territory. You are responsible for others. Most of the desert is not policed. Do you carry protection, ready to use it? Don't become a victim.

Yes, though...Know how to use it and ready to use it are two very different things!!! I was part of the Boon-Docking webinar Airstream hosted late last summer. They all made it seem rather safe, none have ever had issues. Currently, carjackings are up over 500% in S. Minneapolis. Even with these staggering numbers, the chances of me getting carjacked are very low...I hope! Unfortunately, I won't visit downtown Minneapolis after dark. ...It's just not worth the risk!
Is this a common occurrence? Are the odds high enough to warrant making sure I am packing due to Pirates? Wild animals are the reason why I carry...as a last resort! I guess the other thing to consider is my carry permit is not valid in California.

Perhaps just across the border in Quartzsite? Palm Canyon (south of town) is excellent. Plenty of space great cell coverage. Zero concerns with bad critters or bad folks. The town is not so wonderful - but that is not why folks come here.
