Boise to Klamath Falls

Hello Airstream Travelers,

We are heading out from Boise to Klamath Falls. It looks like hiway 20 to 395 to 140 is the optimum route.
Questions:
1) Is this the best route with a trailer?
2) What is the best place to stay halfway?
3) Anything we are missing?

Thanks so much!

Ron

There’s a whole lot of nothing along that route with Burns before g the only town of any size. Lots of BLM land for boondocking, though.

If you want to take a less direct route John Day has a very nice fair ground RV park with full hookups. Nice small town.

Second the above - a lot of high desert. Haven’t pulled a trailer on most of those roads, but don’t remember them as bad, in fact more the opposite. 395 is no problem. Safe travels!

If you have time... I would opt to go a bit north travel 26 over to Hwy 97 and then south, it will take you right to Klamath Falls. 97 is a good road, with quite a few places to camp and things to see. The John Day trail along part of 26 is quite interesting with things to see as well. Might be a little longer trip, but more opportunity for fuel, food, camping, and sight seeing.

Thanks, All!
Well we ended up taking the original trip and it was SPECTACULAR! We stsyed overnight in Burns, OR and then went to Rocky Point on Upper Klamath Lake.
The drive was really amazing and we would do it again.
Caddygrn, we will take the 97 trip from Weed on up next time and avoid I-5 for something different next time. We did take it south from Klamath to Weed on the way home to avoid the fires.
Thanks again, Everyone!!
