Hart's Camp.

Hi, knowing that we have to leave the Blue Heron, I need to find another place to stay. I found a place in Pacific City called Hart's Camp. Close to the Ocean, new owners trying to fix it up, bunnies running loose in the camp ground, and they have seven Airstream rentals. Well this must be a really nice place. I drove in and asked for two nights and got it. It was something like $45.00 per night plus taxes, I guess. It was pennies over $100.00 for two nights. There were plenty of empty spaces here, but next door was a State camp ground and it was full. On the other side was a nicer camp ground and it looked to be full too. Anyway, It served the purpose for us. I got some WIFI and saw an Email from Blue Heron, [too late] there was a list of camping rules and I did not see anything about generators. I did hear one while I was there , but it was really quiet. Another rule said to Please don't unhook your trailer. Oooops. There were a few others who unhooked there trailers so they could drive around; After all, the motorhome people were allowed to unhook their cars and drive around. Lee gave me some lettuce to feed the bunnies.

Hi, not a lot of things for us to do in Pacific City so we took a day trip back North past Tillamook. We went to the train place to ride the train. The nice man with a cool dog in the caboose office said that the train runs every two hours and we could pay for the ride on the train. We got there just as train left. We hung around for two hours to ride the train. finally we are going for a train ride. NOT SO FAST. The lady said that only those with reservations could board the train and it was going to be full. She gave us a phone number that we could call and make a reservation over the phone if there was any room left. No-one answered the phone and never called back. So no train ride for us.

We drove around and did a little bit of hiking, had a nice lunch, and took some pictures. Also have been looking everywhere for a nice Rain Chain for Lee and finally found one in a little store in Rockaway.

Made it back home.

Hi, we had a great little trip and made it back home in one piece. My refrigerator worked, but it kept turning on the CHECK light. I have the part and will fix it after our little heat wave that's coming soon. My trailer brakes worked good and my new tongue jack is great. My new shower head worked good too. We hope to take some short trips like this, maybe, twice a month. Lee was happy and I was happy. It was great to get out and do something and see things.

I saw one of the girls leaving one of the rental Airstreams. I asked her how she liked it. She said that she loved it, but knows that her Mini Cooper could never tow one. I asked her, if she didn't mind, how much does the Airstream cost? She said that they are very expensive. Oh, I know that, I mean how much are the rentals? She said they are the same amount as the rooms in the hotel, who runs the camp ground, $335.00 per night. YIKES. The rental Airstreams do come with his and hers bicycles to ride around town or maybe go to the beach.

Here are some more random pictures of our trip. The portrait pictures need to be reduced to 20% to post correctly, but I had a long day and I'm just too tired to re-size my pictures.

The weather was cloudy and foggy a long the coast and in the low 60's mostly. After arriving back home, the temps worked their way up to the high 80's and we may soon reach the 100's.

Refrigerator circuit board.

Hi, well I finally decided that it was a good and a cool day to replace my refrigerator's circuit board. I believed that this new board was an up-grade to the original. I was wrong. Put everything back and order the correct refrigerator circuit board. Also I waited too long and the wrong board is not returnable.

Bob, I also have ordered things that I knew I would need and for whatever reason by the time I got to it, they wouldn't accept a return. My understanding is many returned items are thrown out because they don't want to bother with putting the item back in the plastic or box. Many people won't buy something that was returned. They cover their losses by making the return period shorter and shorter.

I hope you have more trips planned and Lee is doing well.

Hi, Gene. Lee said that she wants to go out again, in a week or so. Since I was unable to fix my refrigerator, I fixed my Ultra Fab tongue jack. The factory sent to me a new switch assembly, I installed it, bench tested it, and put it away. I now have my original Barker tongue jack all set up with a new gear; I won't use it because, I believe that my truck is too heavy for it. Now I have my newly repaired Ultra Fab tongue jack with the new switch assembly installed and tested. Both of these are parked in my garage. What will I do with them? Sell them? Give them to a needy friend? Or hoard them forever and let my daughters deal with them. Very early to say, but at this time, I think my new Husky Super brute 5000 is the answer to my tongue jack problems. It's quiet, slow, but lifts without any change in sound. [no straining]

Not totally, but Lee all but forgot about her ailments because of taking a short trip with a little bit of hiking and some normal travel activities. I hope taking some short trips will help her feel better and have some fun while doing it.

Glad to hear about Lee enjoying herself. Many travels, random or not, ahead and we hope to see you here someday soon before you are too old to come this far.

Trip to Oregon coast.

Hi, let's start this story with Saturday evening. We have some good neighbors that we get together with on Saturdays. One Saturday, our neighbors have us over to their house for dinner and card games and next Saturday it's our turn. This Saturday, July 10th was our turn to have our neighbors over to our house for dinner and card games. This does use a lot of energy and time, so lets think about a short trailer trip starting on Monday. Sunday, July 11th I decided to get our truck and trailer ready for another random trip. Since we were thinking about leaving on Monday, I decided that this might be a good time to replace my refrigerator control board. [I got the right one this time.] I got my trailer hitched up and pulled forward to gain access to my refrigerator. It's tight and awkward getting to the circuit board, but I managed to get it done. One piece of masking tape to hold the access door open, two screw drivers, needle nose pliers, one bright flashlight, and a knee pad was what I needed to do this job. The repair was a success. I put our set-up on the street so we could leave on our trip Monday. I told two of our neighbors that we would be leaving tomorrow. Then Lee said "Let's go today." so our trip started on Sunday July 11th.

Sunday July 11th.

Hi, well we hit the road and we decided to go back to the coast of Oregon, but South of our last trip. This would make Lincoln City our first hopeful destination, since as you know, we don't make reservations. Driving down Highway 101 we spotted a camp ground right on the highway, but on the other side of the street. I managed to turn around to check it out. Right when I turned into the driveway we saw a "Full" sign. Out we go to try another place to stay. We saw a sign and took Highway 229 about two miles to this camp ground. If we get in we will ask for two nights. We were thinking that we would stay at this place for two nights and move farther South, and find another camp ground, and stay two more nights. Well we got in for two nights at Coyote Rock camp ground. It's right along a river and I was asked if we wanted to be in the center or next to the river. The cost was right at $50.00 per night in the middle and $70.00 per night to park by the river. I chose the center. Lee was a bit disappointed when I told her, but when I told her it $20.00 per night more to be by the river, she was OK with my choice. This camp ground wasn't the nicest or the worse, but an OK destination so we could take our day trips along the coast.

Sunday July 11th.

Hi, after getting settled in we decided to drive down Highway 229 and see where it goes. This is something that we have done for decades, find a street and see where it goes. Well Highway 229 goes all the way to Newport. There we discovered another Light House in Yaquina Bay. This one is pretty close to the Newport Light House that we have been to many times, but didn't know about it. Oregon has many Light Houses, but they seem to be well hidden. We also stopped at the Newport Jetty and Beverly Beach where the both have day use areas. Most day use areas have a $5.00 fee; I bought another two year State Park Pass. The park Pass has worked well for us. These were some strange rock formations on this beach. Notice Lee is getting around pretty good. She said she forgets about the pain when having a good time.

Note: the first 12 pictures were taken on Monday July 12th. We didn't keep our notes as well as we should have.

Monday July 12th.

Hi, On Monday we went south to Fogarty Beach. Later we stopped at Boiler Bay where we were able to see a Gray Whale. We made a Wal-Mart stop for a few things. We went to South Beach State Park beach and camp ground. Camp ground looked pretty good, more so if you have children. The camp ground was full and we didn't see anything else on the way so we decided to add one more night at Coyote Rock camp ground. We found a popular Sea Food place called South Beach Seafood Market; We actually ate there two days in a row. After lunch we went to Waldport, Yachats city, and Rock Creek. We also went to Devil's churn.

Tuesday July 13th.

Hi, First thing in the morning Lee wanted to go back to Boiler bay because that was the best place for Whale watching. Lee wanted to go back to the Sea Food market for lunch again. After Lunch we headed for Seal Rock / beach. we walked around the beach checking things out. Actually we did a lot of walking / hiking at every beach that we stopped at. Sometimes it was hard for me to keep up with Lee. She sometimes seemed more concerned about me on the rocks than her. It was another exciting day. We went back to Lincoln where there is another Mo's restaurant that we haven't dined at yet. We were told the wait time was 1 1/2 hours. Forget it, we don't need or want Mo's that bad. So back to the trailer.

Let's see if I can post some matching pictures.

Wednesday July 14th.

Hi, it's Wednesday morning and we are all hitched up and ready to go home. But wait! Lee wants to check out some more places, trailer and all. We must stop at Boiler Bay to see the whales again. Lee saw one, but I only saw the whale blow water from it's blow hole. Lee said she saw a Shamoo type whale. [black and white]

OK now we have driven past Depoe Bay many times but never stopped there It' a little tourist town with a Clam Chowder place that Lee wants to try, but parking there is next to impossible. Getting there fairly early we were able to find street parking with room for my truck and trailer within walking distance to the town. The Clam chowder place was closed and there were no signs showing hours of operation. But Lee wasn't going to give up. We checked out the little tourist stores and Lee found a little leather purse that she liked and I bought an Eagle kite. Finally the Chowder place opened up after I put our purchased goods in the truck. I ordered a kid's / senior's grilled cheese sandwich with fries and Lee ordered a senior's clam chowder and we were both happy. Depoe bay also has the Worlds smallest harbor.

Is it time to head for home now? I need to turn around somewhere but turning around in a tiny tourist town with narrow streets might not work so lets go down south until we find a good place to turn around. And then Lee said let's go to Fogarty Beach before going home. There we saw birds, a dead seal, a vulture eating a big ugly dead fish, and some nesting birds. We also saw some interesting rocks, one looked like a brain. Once again, Lee left me in the dust walking through the rocks.

Lee on the rocks video.

Hi, here's a video of Lee on the rocks. Ooooops I guess we can no longer post videos so you will just have to take my word for it that Lee was walking on the rocks.

There was a Bi-plane ride, but it was too windy for it to fly and I told Lee I didn't want to do it on this trip, but maybe sometime in the future.

Interesting signs.

A burned down house "SOLD".

Great to see you are both on the road. Have you gone home yet?

Newport Beach has a municipal or county RV lot on the harbor. All pavement I recall. You look up to the large bridge over the harbor. When we were there it was off season, so it was pretty quiet, but full it might be just what it is, a parking lot.

Hi, Gene. Yes, we did make it back home. Truck and trailer were success stories. In the evening, when it cooled down, I washed my trailer. I also had three loads of laundry to do. One load was because I got some of my blood on the sheets. Typical old person; My arm was bruised and bleeding and I had no idea when where or how it happened. I went for a band-aid and they were like melted or something so I had to trash them. We got new band-aids from Wal-mart when we stopped there. Today I cleaned the inside of my trailer and put the bed back together. I used my hand held vacuum cleaner for the tight spots, mostly around the bed and I let our Roomba [robot] do the rest.
