Hi, last night I tanked up the Lincoln and got all hitched up. $3.14 per gallon for Premium was pretty good. Dusty went to the groomers so he would look good for his trip home. We left La Habra at 3:30 AM and made it to Durango RV Resort in Red Bluff, California at about 4:30 PM.

Shower repair.

Hi, I noticed that sometimes the flow of water from the shower head was quite weak. Checking it out, I determined that the original ten year old shower hose was weak in spots and kinking. Lowes had a nice replacement hose for about $21.00. Being on the road for about two months and about 5,000 miles, the trailer repairs were very minimal.

Hi, we only got a little bit of mist and a whole lot of fog. Last night we got a lot of rain as I'm sure you already know.

Hi, on December 2nd we left Durango RV Resort and headed for Oregon. We originally thought we might stay one more night in Oregon somewhere, but my blood was pumping so we kept going until we got home. I think Dusty was the happiest to be home. He ran all around the inside of our house for several hours. I heard a noise early in the morning. Dusty was pacing and wanting to go out. His sight and hearing is getting worse and we thought he might have trouble finding his doggie door, that he hasn't used for two months. By the time I was up to help him, I heard the doggie door flap. He just went out on his own. I waited to see if he could find his way back in, and he did. Last night we unloaded some things from the trailer and this morning we removed more stuff. We emptied the laundry and got our machines going. The refrigerator and pantry also got emptied and all back in the house. I was able to drain my trailer's fresh water tank and water heater. I parked my trailer and did a final black tank flush. Then I bought some pink stuff in one gallon bottles and winterized my trailer for the second time in ten years. This time it was a lot easier than my nightmare last year. Now my trailer is done for now and in it's place. I will un-hitch my Lincoln and unload it in the next few days.

(1.) Dusty in the trailer shortly after being groomed.

(2.) Dusty on his square bed at home. Dusty has three beds. This square bed and two round beds. While traveling we keep one round bed in the Lincoln and the other one in the trailer. At home the trailer bed goes in the house.

(3.) We decided that this was the last trip for our Famous Lincoln so it is being retired. Now I have to put some miles on our new F-150 and set it up for towing.

Glad to see you're home safe and sound. Congratulations on what sounded like a great trip.

I'm hoping Susan and I will be able to take some longer trips next year. Knowing her though, she'll be hard to tear away from her new garden playground.

No more trips to follow 'til spring unless Moosetags goes traveling out of Florida. Have to fantasize on my own. Thanks for taking us along.

I can't remember—did you get one of the aluminum 150's and the EB engine? The aluminum ones are just coming to market now, but I could be wrong. I'll be interested to see how you like the new truck. I'm not a Ford fan (I haven't yet gotten over that '56 Mercury), but I'm willing to listen. I am not enthused Toyota has chosen not to do anything with the Tundra but some sheet metal and raising prices very high.

Hi, Gene; My new 2014 F-150 has a steel body, 2015 models are Aluminum. Mine does have the Eco-Boost engine. I drove my new truck today for the second time. I have lots to learn and mine is only an XLT. Higher models have way more toys, which I decided weren't necessary for me or worth $10,000.00 more.

New truck tows Safari to East coast.

Hi, My new truck is connected to my trailer and we will be hitting the road tomorrow. Since we are no longer in LA county, my wife says we don't have to leave at 4:00 AM to beat the traffic. [also known as the seven lane parking lot] This, as usual, will be another random trip. The idea is to go to the East Coast hitting States and Provinces that we haven't been to yet. My wife will be giving me directions and Sweet Caroline will show me how to get there. Sweet Caroline is my new RV GPS; She got her name because she came from South Carolina and my wife thinks she's sweet, so Sweet Caroline is her name. Georgette, also known as Princess Georgette, is still being used in our retired Lincoln. For those who don't remember, Princess Georgette was purchased at a Costco, on our way to Alaska. The Costco was located in Prince George, Canada.

We are on board. But we won't be a nuisance in the back seat with Dusty. We are set, however, to watch the passing landscapes through your lens.

First day disasters.

Hi, we left this morning and had a wonderful drive, most of the way. It was getting really hot and our trailer was too hot inside, especially for Dusty. Well, I'll fire up the generator and cool things off. My air conditioner put my generator into overload. We had our lunch in the truck. I shut my generator off and restarted it and the air conditioner was working. The heat from my generator was quite high even though no vents were blocked. I was afraid that the rubber mats in the bed would melt or catch fire so I shut it down.

We were headed towards the Idaho border and we were running low on gas. We went through a small town and passed two gas stations because certainly there are more. WRONG. Now we are worried about running out of gas; My wife thought we might be OK since I have a brand new gas can, but it was empty. I haven't filled it yet. We stop in the middle of n o-where and ask for the nearest gas station and we were told 38 miles either way. My gas meter said that I only had about 15 miles left. I have a hand pump so we pumped all of the gas out of my generator and into my truck. Will we make it or not????? And to add to all of this, it was 105 degrees out.

Day one continued.

Hi, as we were pumping less than two gallons of gas out of my generator into my truck, there were other people in the same situation; Not enough gas to get to either gas station. I talked to some motorcycle people and they saw the gas station and said if you blink, you will miss this one building, one pump gas station.

Just barely made it.

Hi, [weak WIFI problem, what's new?] There was a one building, one pump gas station that could very easily be missed. We made it, on fumes. My truck took 35.5 gallons in a 36 gallon tank. I also refilled my generator and filled my new gas can. Lee Lee was going to KILL ME. If we ran out of gas on a one lane highway in 105 degree weather, we might have had a casualty. Some one from above must have been looking out for us.

Day #2.

Hi, today we made it to Idaho; My wife took the Ice Cave tour. This was another scorching hot day so Dusty and I stayed in the truck with the air conditioner running. I didn't go far enough for a true gas mileage test and idling for an hour with the air conditioner on cuts down on the mileage reading. We stopped at a gas station with a Mc Donalds and had lunch there. I also put the wrong gas in my truck. I of coarse put Regular in my tank, and the price was pretty good, but at this gas station, Regular is 85 octane instead of 87. Well it took half a tank, so it will be running on 86 octane for about one more day. I plan to never reset "Trip number 2" on my truck and for this trip, I will not reset "Trip number 1" and so far I have an average of 10.8 MPG towing. So far my mileage is about the same as with my Lincoln, but the power is wonderful. My little engine is smooth and quiet. It never sounds like it is working hard. Cruise control set at 65MPH and it keeps that speed up all of the hills so far. When it does down shift into 5th or 4th gears it holds an RPM of just over 2,000 at the most. Going down hill, it automatically shifts down at about 5 MPH above where you set the cruise control, or at 5 MPH above where you let off of the gas pedal. It will also down shift when you hit the brakes. I do have to remember to put it in Tow/Haul mode every time I restart my truck.
