Bob, for the first 3 days the magic box worked fine, but now I've had to reboot (take out battery and put it back in) it twice and hopefully I don't have to do that over and over. My Mac will default to the strongest signal, so maybe the Tengo signal is stronger (though probably slower) than the Verizon signal.

They put a sticker on the back of the black magic box with the password and a 2nd sticker came with the paperwork.

Now if this thing doesn't need to be rebooted again, I'll send this.

Just a note

Gene,
I have excellent reliable results using my Verizon Samsung S3 as a mobile Hotspot. It does very well even with a marginal 4G signal.

There must be some way to force your Mac to connect to your device's WIFI signal only.

Ken, it has been working fine since the initial problems. Fast on 4G, not so on 3G.

Gene,

Glad to hear it. 3G seems very slow after 4G, but just switch to 1X and then to 3G, it will seem blazing. It gets the job done and gives you time to ponder solutions to the world's problems and maybe even some of your own.

Bob,

I apologize for my part in taking your thread into the uncharted waste lands.

I don't think it was a hijack as we are trying to get Bob modernized so he doesn't have to fight Tengo anymore and can post photos at random. By the way, sometimes 3G is fast, but more often it is not. I think the nearest cell tower is at capacity. This is one of those rare areas where ATT is better than Verizon.

On our trip to NE Iowa last month, we were down in a hole in the little town of Elkader surrounded by hills. We got a very strong 4G signal. Take a look at the 4G coverage in the upper Midwest compared to the west. It's glaringly better.

Countless Reasons. One Choice | Verizon Wireless - Verizon Wireless

You have to select the 4G button and then refresh the map.

Ken

P.S. I believe Tengo is colloquial Spanish for "sucks mucho grande".

I believe there should be a sanction against a campground saying it has WIFI when it is in fact Tengo.

Hi, Gail; Sorry we missed you. All of the early birds left before we got there and everyone else will probably show up after we left. [are they trying to tell us something?] We are in Oregon now. [Salem] We just got WIFI and will spend all night catching up.

Hi, I go without WIFI for a few days and my thread goes sideways! Anyway, we have it now and I'm still learning. I believe, but could be wrong, I think Tengo tries to over ride my Verizon. At this time, I believe that I'm connected to Verizon.

Just got back from Zion, Bryce, and North rim. ; 0).
I too, am a victim of "yes we have WiFi".
When I called to make reservations I ask'd them directly if they had wifi. He said yes. Ithen said, does it work? Resonse...."YES".

I get there and ask again and they state that they have wifi! So, I get to to my site and guess what? No wifi. I go to the desk and ask what's going on with the wifi. They check and come back saying the cable was kinked. I go back to the AS and the wifi worked for about 30 minutes. Went back a couple of times and finally gave up!

WIFI sucks.

Hi, well this is a really nice camp ground, but the WIFI sucks. Then I remembered the last time that I was here [Premier RV Park in Salem, Oregon] and spent the night in the laundry room; Well guess where I am now. We had a wonderful time at "Camp smartstream" an hated to leave, but we have a few other things that we need to do. Our hosts were great and we couldn't thank them enough for all that they did for us. They had WIFI too but we just had too much fun, leaving no time for things like TV's and lap tops. Hagar and Boo-Boo were quite the pair.

Hi, wish you [and Cindy] could have been there when we showed up; But then again, we got the same full hook-up site that you had.

Bob,
This is probably been covered before. However with nearly 1000 posts in this thread, I think you will forgive me for asking instead of searching. What are you taking all your pictures with?

Hi, Ken; I'm using a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX30V digital camera. It has 18.2 Mega Pixels, and a 20X optical zoom.

Bob,

Every time my laptop or iPad goes to sleep, when I waken it the system looks for the strongest signal. At one house where I still have a wireless provider, the computer selects it instead of Verizon.

There are ways to solve this. One is to change it manually every time. Or, put the Verizon magic box next to the device antenna. If you need a password for the Tengo system, don't enter it, and if you have, go into the preferences and delete it. The third is illegal and has to do with CG antennas and wire cutters. I do not recommend that one.
