Day 13, May 15th, 2012.

Hi, more of Athens, in another part of the city. In the second picture you can see some of the new white pieces of marble that they made to repair this structure. In the third picture is some burried ruins that were found as they were attempting to build a subway.

Day 14, May 16th, 2012.

Hi, today was another "Day at Sea" and one of the things that we got to do today was tour the ship's kitchen. This kitchen gets to feed about 5,000 people daily. About 3,500 passengers and about 1,200 crew members. This kitchen is extremely clean and well organized. They are artistic too. Lots of good food. I did get a little spoiled with a piece of cheese cake with most of my dinners; Something I almost never get at home.

Day 14, May 16th, 2012.

Hi, I took some pictures of some food art and an ice sculpture. The food art was in the kitchen and the ice sculpture was done outside by the pool, so everyone could watch it being done, then moved into the cafeteria. In the cafeteria, I had a problem with one of the workers. I notified one of the managers and he said he would take care of it. He came by our table and apologized to us and asked for our room number. Later that night, when we went back to our room, we were surprised with what we found. I haven't had any alcohol for decades, but I was going to drink this time. I only had one glass and my face turned bright red and later felt like my face was on fire. I won't try that again.

I almost forgot to mention that we really enjoyed the chocolate covered strawberries.

Bob, keep the photos coming. I'm enjoying your trip and the Muslim and Spanish architecture—the Spanish is influenced by the Moors who ruled that part of Spain until them late 15th century.

So what did you drink to make your face red? Now that I am a lightweight a couple of beers and I'm ready to pass out, but never have had that reaction. Sounds like an allergic reaction. Maybe they'll give you something else next.

That kitchen seems so organized it appears unnatural for a restaurant.

Gene

Hi, Gene, I drank one glass of of the Champagne that was left in our room with the chocolate covered strawberries. I was never much of a drinker and virtually stopped all alcohol decades ago. Even then, it was only a small sip at a wedding or something like that. I have been dealing with some skin cancer, but I don't think that had anything to do with it.

Bob, I never liked champagne, but it sure can get you stupid. Sorry to hear about the skin cancer. I hope that is being treated successfully.

Day 15, May 17th, 2012.

Hi, today we are going to visit Venice, Italy. No time or knowledge of where my Grandfather's family came from. [somewhere in Northern Italy is all I know] Also stories about possible name changes between Italy and Northern California. Venice is a group of islands connected by canals and bridges. No motor vehicles at all. I don't think we even saw a bicycle. Boats, Gondolas, and walking is the way to get around. We visited the Morano glass factory; It was quite interesting, but very expensive. I saw two little glasses that were about $160.00 for the pair. The cruise ships have to be guided through a waterway between islands and docked. There we took shuttle boats to the main area of town. Our treat of the day was chocolate covered Canoli's. So good that we went back for seconds. We can't totally blame the cruise ship for our weight gains. In one of the pictures, you can see the Gondola that we rode in.

Day 15, May 17th, 2012.

Hi, more pictures from Venice. In Venice you don't see the ground anywhere. It looks like all of the buildings were built on water. Maybe there is a low tide for building. They have their statues, marble, gold, and bridges. [many bridges] We were told that it is very easy to get lost in Venice. In the previous post, I forgot to mention the columns in the buildings. One of the columns shown is made out of purple marble. Purple marble has been all used up and there is no more. [extreamly rare] Most of the purple marble was used for their version of a casket. It seemed strange that a white marble building would have a few random purple columns on it. We were also told not to touch or fall into the water, especially in the canals. The canals had a bad smell that they say gets much worse in warmer weather. I think the canals are also their sewer system, but I could be wrong. In the last picture is a decoration mounted on the side of the Gondola. Each Gondola has a pair of [looks like brass] decorations and they seem to be different on every one.

Correction on previous post: Murano Glass, not Morano.

Day 16, May 18th, 2012.

Hi, after visiting Venice, it was back to our ship for our last night. I of course have a few more pictures to share. Some interesting pictures of items made out of glass in the Murano district. More pictures of/in the cruise ship. One was of an outside ceiling area where they had ceiling fans; There must have been a problem because they removed the access panel to check or repair something. Anyway, you can see from this picture how well and neat this ship was built. There is also a picture of some road signs directing us to the nearest airport. And finally Boo-Boo after we finally got home.

"Bob and Lee's random trip"........

Hi, I have been working on my trailer for the past few days. And finally after close to eight years of ownership, we have finally personalized our bathroom. [all of the other rooms have been done for years] "Bob and Lee's random trip/s" is now documented in home made wall paper with some special scenes from our trips and some wild animals too. [including one of Dusty / Boo-Boo]

Jackson Rancheria.

Hi, first I would like to say that we had a great time at Jackson Rancheria again this year. And a huge Thank You to Jeff. We are on our way to Salem, Oregon. We didn't quite make it tonight so we stopped at a KOA in Medford. As usual we are disappointed in KOA. I used a whole box of leveling blocks and I'm still off. Right nowI'm in the men's bathroom so I can use their wonderful WIFI. [SUCKS] "Hotel last resort" Hopefully tomorrow I will be in a real camp ground with real WIFI. Did I ever tell you that KOA SUCKS? My net book is on the sink counter and I'm sitting on a trash can.[wonderful] Any way Neil asked me to keep him and anyone else who is interested updated on another random trip.

Bob, you have as many problems with KOA's as I have with US border guards taking our fruit.

We are leaving for the northwest on 10/26—I wonder if we will cross paths? We can lead you to KOA's (we find most of them to be fine) and you can take me across the border (except we aren't planning to go to Canada this trip).

Keep us updated and thanks for making sacrifices in the bathroom.

Bob,
I highly recommend the Vally of the Rogue State park just south of Medford (as I recall). No WiFi but level sites with hookups. Great seeing you and Lee at JRRV again this year. Have a safe trip. Hope to see you both next spring at Casini.
