Day 1, May 3rd 2012.

Hi, we left home on May 3rd; We took a shuttle bus to LAX. Los Angeles International airport. We hired a sitter for Boo-Boo and our house. Our first flight was to London Heathrow Airport. I yelled "Hi" to Lili, but I don't think she heard me. Boo-Boo knew something was up, but seemed to be OK when we left. Our plane was a British Airways 747. In the plane there was a movie screen for each person; I liked the flight report the best. This flight is just too long and painful for me. Glad there was decent snacks/food and movies to watch, to help pass the time. [about 11 hours]

Day 2, May 4th 2012

Hi, from London's Heathrow Airport we transferred to a smaller plane and headed for Barcelona, Spain. Our hotel was ancient looking from the outside, but very modern on the inside. Our first evening there, we walked all around the city. There seems to not be any speed limits because the motor scooters go way faster down the narrow streets than I would on my motor scooter. [I never seen so many motor scooters in my life] There were so many people walking there that it looked like mass confusion, but the people in Barcelona were very courteous; As hundreds of pedestrians cross the streets, they all seem to make it without bumping into each other. Actually, it looks almost impossible, but very rarely does any one touch you as you cross paths, and when they do, they are very apologetic. Here is a view of Barcelona from our plane, a Ford van police vehicle, and some Local buildings

Day 3, May 5th, 2012.

Hi, we toured the entire city on two busses, Red and Blue. There is so much to see, so we took pictures of anything and everything. Unfortunately I can't post all 3,957 pictures [taken on this trip/cruise] on this forum. Did I mention motor scooters? Well with this many motor scooters, they also have a motor scooter tow truck. You didn't pay for parking or didn't park in a scooter marked parking space, it would be towed away, fast. Hard to describe but the Spanish building are like nothing else. Lots of pick-pockets and purse snatchers in these countries [tourist areas] and even the locals warned us. Lee Lee was taking pictures of this Fat Cat and she later told me that the two boys at the opposite end of the park bench had their eyes on her; Possibly wanting to steal her camera. When they realized that she wasn't alone and saw her with me, they disappeared. Note: in the second picture, we were told that this church has been under construction for hundreds of years and it will maybe take hundreds more before it's finished.

Great photos. The architecture is amazing. Nearly 4,000 photos! I hope you don't upload all of them, because I'd try to look at them all.

Day 4, May 6th, 2012.

Hi, after a two night stay in our hotel in Barcelona Spain, it was time to board our ship. The Ruby Princess is quite nice. A bus picked us up at the hotel and took us to the ship. We were given cruise cards, a map of the ship, [this is necessary] and led to our room. They have you play a game, but it's really a good idea; You each receive a card with destinations on the ship and you get your card stamped at each destination that you find. Now you know where things are located on the ship. We had lunch and dinner, put our stuff in place, and by then the ship starts to our next destination.

Day 5, May 7th, 2012.

Hi, this still confuses me, but sometimes that's easy to do. Our first stop with our cruise ship was at Monaco. There we spent some time in Cannes after passing through Monte Carlo. Monaco is a place where the rich can live without paying any taxes. Monte Carlo [not a Chevrolet] is famous for formula 1 racing. And Cannes is where the movie stars celebrate every year. [and, tops optional, on the beaches]

Day 5 continued.

Hi, after some time hanging out in Monaco, Monte Carlo, Cannes, we drove through parts of France and our next stop was Pisa, Italy. This is amazing. That tower really does lean. And the massive tower and church made from marble is a sight to see. How did man ever build things like these boggles my mind. This is like we were able to mark many items off of our bucket list on one trip. [we don't really have one, bucket list]

That church is Antoni Gaudi's Sagrada Familia. Construction was started in 1882 and was suspended or delayed during much of Franco's reign. It is once again moving along nicely and should be finished within 100 years, assuming private financing continues to pay the bills. It is an amazing building in size and architecture, and is worth the trip to Barcelona alone. Two of your other pictures were of other Gaudi buildings. No trip to Barcelona is complete without a tour of Gaudi buildings and his beautiful and fanciful park.

Hi, Like I said, reporting after the fact gets confusing. Cannes is in France and Pisa Italy was the next day. I was reporting each, as per the dates listed by my camera, but there is/was about a twelve hour difference. We saw Pisa in the morning, but my camera said it was about 10:30 at night. [wife correcting me]

Day 6, May 8th, 2012.

Hi, today was Pisa [previously posted] and Florence. More amazing buildings and statues everywhere. We are getting use to living on the Ruby Princess and spoiled by the service. we don't have to clean our room, cook our meals, or do the dishes. Live shows on the ship were great. The food is great. And our little room was just cozy. The people in Italy drive like crazy, horns honking, and close calls everywhere, but no accidents.

Hi, today we went to Rome to see the Colosseum. This is enormous and the work that went into this is...........well I don't have the words to explain it. Who designed it? How was it built? How many bricks were used? How was man able to do something like this? Why has whatever is left of it lasted so long?

Easy Answer to one of the questions..
Whips and more than a sprinkling of Slaves..
After Nero Died Vespasian used thousands of em ..
10 years it took to build..70 ad or thereabouts
Tightass..I mean Titus ..Vespians son The thumb up and
Thumb down Kid on the block..enjoyed the Roman "Games" One could say the bloodiest exhibitions of public entertainment known to Russell Crowe
Love the pictures
Talking about slavery..I'm off to work..

Day 8, May 10th, 2012.

Hi, today we stopped at Naples, Italy. Naples was mostly viewed from the windows of our tour bus. I have a few pictures to show you. View of Naples from mountain road, an early Fiat, a RV and tent camp ground, and a road sign so you don't get lost.

To be continued: On this same day we spent some time in Sorrento and the main attraction was Pompei.

Day 8, May 10th, 2012.

Hi, we stopped in Sorrento for a few hours. This is a very colorful little town. Of course they have to have a statue too. We toured a "wood inlay, furniture factory/store". We walked down the narrow streets and our first stop was at a little store so Lee Lee could buy a Canoli; I bought an ice cream cone. I also bought a few bottles of peach iced tea since I don't drink water. Some of the streets are for pedestrians only; They have many little shops/stores with all kinds of things. We bought some real Italian pasta. For lunch we stopped at a restaurant for a real Italian Pizza. It was sooooo good, like no pizza we ever had. We ate on a balcony, so romantic, as long as you didn't look down. [I didn't look down] The streets are lined with Orange trees. They told us that the oranges tasted terrible, so they use them to make orange marmalade.

Note: to be continued; Pompei.
