Loose again?

Hi, today after getting situated in our space, I noticed that my large cabinet door hinge was loose again. This time it was only the top one. I removed it to put it back together and re-adjusted it again. [I don't like these hinges] Also my shower control handle was loose again. The allen screw on the handle was tight, so I removed it and tightened the phillips head screw on the plastic mounting disk. I keep two screw drivers and one allen wrench in the trailer, so I didn't have to dig through the tool boxes in my Lincoln.

Not bad considering your airstream is sustaining a constant mini earthquake while traveling those back roads..

Day 15.

Hi, this morning I dropped Lee Lee off at the tour bus station for her 12 hour tour. [I go tomorrow] So it's been me and Dusty at 2005 Safari Ave. Airstream, Alaska. I was lucky enough to do laundry again today, but it helped pass the time. I'm still dodging the mosquitoes, but there aren't very many here and they are slow. Most of my bite bumps are finally going down, so I don't look like I have a teenager's face. After typing this post, Dusty and I are going on a car ride to see if we can spot a Moose or something.

(1.) Lee Lee's Bus, ready to leave to Kantishna.

(2.) Mile Post sign. Been to North Pole, Fairbanks, and now Denali; maybe Anchorage next?

(3.) Safari and Lincoln camped in little valley.

(4.) Fire weed; They say it is the first plant to show up after the snow. It can be used to make Tea and other things. I wonder if Lili has had Tea made from Fire Weed?

Dead School Bus.

Hi, I know it's not hard to find dead vehicles in the country, but this one was parked on edge of the campground, not far from us, and I thought it was interesting. So of course I had to take a few pictures of it.

No, I'm at the top of a hill next to the camp ground office/store/restaurant/restroom/showers/laundry.

It's just called Fire Weed, it's not hot.

No it's actually a twelve hour trip; Ninety two miles each way.

Those abandoned cars give me the flipping eebyjeebies..Ive seen "The Hills have eyes"

Old vehicles aren't scary unless they were in a really bad accident, like being hit with a big rig or train.

No snakes, just Bears and Moose.

Ammonia works great to neutralize mosquito, and other insect, bites.

Hi, Gene. Today my wife was very lucky because the skies cleared up while she was on the tour. And she was able to see the mountain. [Mt. Mc Kinley] Hope I can see it tomorrow on my tour.

Hi, Gene; As you said, some see, and some don't. You can compare Lee Lee's picture yesterday with mine today. [huge difference] But I did get a pretty good shot of a Grizzly bear today. The Lincoln was tanked up and hitched up. We are moving tomorrow.

Day 17.

Hi, today we left Denali [actually Healy] campground and headed South/West to Anchorage. Gas was a little cheaper at $3.95 per gallon of regular. We are now camped at Ship Creek RV Park, in Anchorage, Alaska. I, as usual, had a hard time getting onto the Internet again. This time I was thrown a curve ball; I was supposed to sign in on a secured web site, instead of the un-secured one. At the last place, in Healy, I was told the WIFI might not work from our trailer and I might have to try the laundry room. It worked great and we were only getting one or two bars. Today, we found a large farmer's type market and walked through the place in the rain. Dusty forgot his rain coat and got really wet. Phillis Diller said that she used a wet dog for an air freshener in her house, well guess what we have for an air freshener in our silver house. We bought our dinner at one of the food stands and swung by Costco, for a few things, on the way back to Ship Creek RV Park. We are close to the Ocean, an Airport, and Train tracks so the back round sounds may be interesting tonight.

(1.) This was a light check / rest stop / and new Alaska decal on back window.

(2.) This is the log cabin Anchorage Visiter Center in down town Anchorage.

Our son, Todd, is in Anchorage now visiting his cousins, my late brothers daughters. They are long time residents. Need anything....I'll put them in touch with you.

Day 18.

Hi, today we drove the Lincoln to see some Glaciers; You better come soon because they are melting away. There used to be a lake full of Glacier Ice, but now there are only a few little pieces left. We also went to "Prince William Sound" today. To get there you have to drive through a tunnel that was carved through solid rock. This tunnel is very narrow and 2 1/2 miles long, straight through the mountain. What is unique about this tunnel is that it's use is timed. One time vehicles drive to PWS, [town of Whittier] then vehicles come back from the other side, and then a train goes through the same tunnel, in both directions. It is cold, wet and slippery in there; You drive with your headlights on and I drove off center because my Lincoln was trying to follow the rails. Fat tires on skinny rails doesn't track well. Tomorrow we move again, kind of like Gypsies.

(1.) Picture of a Glacier.

(2.) Entrance of the 2 1/2 mile long tunnel. The center is where you drive into it.

(3.) Sign.

Did you take the trailer to Whittier? We've never gone there and I've read it is not a pretty place, but the tunnel has always aroused my curiosity.

If you go to Seward, Exit Glacier is several miles north. You can walk up to it, but it's a lot longer walk than it used to be. When we were in Juneau 5 years ago, the Mendenhall Glacier was receding fast—1/2 mile in the preceding two years.

Carry on. I'm missing Alaska, but love to see it again.

Hi, Gene. No, we didn't take our trailer there and I wouldn't recommend it either, but it can be done. This is one of the reasons that we un-hook our trailer to go sight seeing. Like you said, it is not pretty there, but different. Probably the best part was going through the tunnel. We also got to see a huge water fall from the melting Glacier.

Thanks Bob. I wondered about it. Whittier is a state ferry stop and you could go across the Gulf of Alaska from there or points west—if you want to get sea sick, you could go to Dutch Harbor and join the crab fishing fleet.
