No KOAs then.

Bob, I am enjoying your trip so far. We went to the same places in 1969. Sure looks the same. No KOAs back then and we were tent camping, just the two of us. No kids yet.

Day five.

Hi, today we drove to Yellowstone National park. Finally being old pays off; No charge to enter the parks with my senior pass. Today was the first time in my life that I saw a frozen lake, Yellowstone Lake. Tomorrow we are moving to Yellowstone RV Park for three nights. My wife thinks I'm crazy because I drove 100 miles just to see if I could find this park, see if they have room for us, and make reservations face to face instead of over the phone. That's just my way of doing things sometimes. The top two pictures are still in Grand Tetons and you can see most of this lake is frozen. The bottom two pictures our first encounter with a moose; Brian [moosetags are you out there?] Yellowstone has no Wifi unless I can steal some from one of those wealthy campers there. If not, you won't hear from me for a few days.

Hi, it is still cold here and will be for some time. We can handle it during the day, but at night, we Southern California people, aren't used to it. We are really glad that we have the padded interior and smaller windows. Last night our oil filled heater couldn't keep up so I set the furnace to kick on, if necessary, and it was.

We could use some of that cold weather right about now.. Still in the 90* degree range after a very hot day here in Northern Calif. Tomorrow will be even hotter. Great pictures of the lake.. stay warm.

Bob, great photos. I hope you are getting used to cold weather, it makes you a stronger man. Of course, now there's a heat wave, so you may be happier. I'd ask where to next, but I guess you don't know. Were the lava beds at Craters of the Moon NM? Did you go intro the lava tubes—they are interesting and a strange place to be.

Day eight or nine?

Hi, We just pulled into Jim & Mary's RV Park In Missoula, Montana and have our first Wifi connection in four days. We spent the last three days and nights in Yellowstone National Park. We watched Old Faithfull twice and stopped to see vertually everything that was open at this time which was almost everything in this huge park. We saw an Eagle and two Ravens eating a dead deer [we think that is what they were lunching on] and we saw so many Bison createing several traffic jams as they walked very slowly down the middle of the street. There were also many deer all through the park; They also liked to cross the street, but much faster than the Bison. I went to fill the Lincoln with gas, but the power was out in the whole park; About an hour or so later we had power again and my Lincoln had a full stomach and was roaring to go. There are lots of mountain roads all through Yellowstone, but my Lincoln was tested again in the mountains of Montana. [Lincoln still doing well] All trips must have some problems or set backs, so far we only had two; My short TV antenna cable broke. [one end fell off] In my junk box, I just happened to have another one, so now we have TV. There was no TV in Yellowstone so there was no loss at that time. The other Item to fail was my oil filled heater; I will fix that when we get home. Yhe first picture is Old Faithfull in action. The second picture is a few deer in Yellowstone. The third picture is a Raven posing as a hood ornament on someones car. and the fourth picture is one of the thermal pools.

More Yellowstone.

Hi, in the picture on the left, we were at Old Faithful area and as we were looking at this really neat looking thermal pool, a gust of wind blew my Airstream hat off. My hat went into an off limits territory. [shown in picture] As we past other on lookers, we let them know that they better hold on to their hats because I lost mine at the thermal we were just walking away from. One brave sole, found a long stick and went into forbidden territory and got my Airstream hat back for me. In the picture on the right, there were some Bison taking a stroll down the highway; This made me feel at home because it was just like L.A. area freeways. [same problem, different animal]

More Bison.

Hi, These pictures were taken just before these Bison decided to cross the street behind my Lincoln; [we moved for them] They were right next to Lee's door and looked like they were going to cross here with or without my tow vehicle being moved. Tomorrow we mare heading through Idaho and may stop at Cour De Arlene as we plan to stop in Washington. I will try to update our random trip as we go as long as I can get Wifi at the campgrounds.

Hi Bob, great pictures. Thanks for including us in your trip. I've enjoyed following along tonight during my late night visit to the forums.

I guess you have the photo resizing thing under control, but if you are just cropping the photo to get the size down there is another way to shrink the total size of the photo and maintain the total extent of the photo if you have MS Office on your laptop:

1-Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the file (photo) you want to resize;
2-Right click on the photo and select "Open with" from the pop-up menu;
3-Select Microsoft Office Picture Manager from the fly-out menu;
4-in Picture Manager, select "Edit Picture" and from the menu bar to the right that appears on the right side, select resize under the bottom category (Change picture size);
5-I always open the pull-down menu under "Predefined width x height:" and select "Web - Large (640 X 480 px)" and then under the file menu on the top tool bar, I do Save As and save as a .jpeg format.

Then just save to your post. I can save multiple photos to a post in one "manage attachment" session this way.

Day ten.

Hi, today we drove from Missoula, Montana [didn't get to meet /thecatsandi/ Michelle] to Couer d' Alene. I think I spelled it right this time. Lee remembered a Japanese restaurant that we ate at three years ago, but at that time our trailer was in a campground, so parking downtown was easier. Gas has began to rise, we had to pay $2.85 per gallon for premium today. We didn't make it to Seatle, Wa. yet, so we stopped at Ellensberg, along the Yakima river. Actually the river is about fourty feet from our trailer. On one nighters like this we pull into the campsite, hook-up the water hose, and 30 amp. service. This makes for a quicker get-away in the morning. There has been some talk about tire pressures and traveling and this is what I do. I set the tire pressure on my trailer at 65 lbs cold and on my Lincoln, I set the front at 35 lbs and the rear at 40 lbs. At every rest stop, camp ground, or gas station I do a visual check for any type of tire damage and kick all of the trailer tires and if all looks good, we go. I feel that using a tire gauge at all of these stops just puts more wear and tear on the tire valve and gives a better chance for dirt to get in and allow your valve to leak causing your own problem. So far , so good.

Pictures.

Hi, the first two pictures are at Jim and Mary's RV park in Missoula, Montana. Highly recommended. The two bottom pictures are where I parked in Couer D' Alene for the Japanese restaurant. Note: in the last picture [click to enlarge] I had to move back a few feet from where I originally parked because my trailer was in a 2 hour zone and my tow vehicle was in an only 15 minute zone.

Day eleven.

Hi, this morning we left Ellenburg KOA; It is an alright place for a KOA. We have found that the KOA book is convenient to use and we have found or stayed at some really nice KOAs, but for my dollar, I like the Good Sam and family owned parks better. We drove through Seattle, Wa. to another really nice campground near Tacoma, Wa. We are at "Gig Harbor RV Resort" and the price isn't too bad. [$34.00] We are staying here for three nights. Due to the holiday weekend, we were the last ones to get a space without reservations.

Airplanes / Aluminum.

Hi, after setting up camp, we drove into Seattle to "The Museum of Flight". This is at an airport, Boeing factory, and Museum. Well worth visiting. We had lunch in their Cafe' and toured all of the buildings and displays. You can take a flight in a vintage bomber or an antique bi-plane. We passed, but looked like fun.
