Because of this I won't be able to post the beautiful pictures we took today at Zion Kolab. I will how-ever post more when we get home, tomorrow. At Zion Kolab, I asked if I could, or should, tow my trailer on the road; I was told that I can leave my trailer in the parking lot or take it with me. [other people have taken their's] So the trailer went with us and I'm glad I didn't have to un-hitch and re-hitch for this last adventure. As we passed Las Vegas, we gassed up in Primm, Nevada and had a really good prime rib dinner for only $6.99, it was much better than we expected for that price. Zero to eighty-seven is the lows and highs in temperatures on our random trip.
Hi, in post #173 are the pictures of Cedar Breaks. The next place we went to was Zion Kolab. [senior moment]

Last day in Utah.

Hi, now I will show you some pictures of Zion Kolab. Everything is so big and colorful, except for the lizzard. It was a nice drive even while towing my Safari.

(1.) Rear view.

(3.) One really huge rock.

(4.) I'm a real pretty red, ,but don't you dare touch me, you'll be sorry.

Hi, good bye Arizona.

Hi, we left Utah and on I-15 it was only about 29 miles to cross Arizona before entering Nevada. We thought about Las Vegas, but didn't like the traffic. We stopped at Primm for gas and a prime rib dinner. Our dinners were only $6.99 each and were much larger and better than we expected. Next we decided that our last stop would be in Victorville so we could do our final tank flushes before going home. Lee heard a few strange noises in our trailer; I searched around and we determined that we picked up our first hitch hiker. First thing in the morning as we hit the road, we stopped at Home Depot to buy a package of sticky traps [four] and a couple of Mickey Mouse hotels. The ones where you check in , but never check out. So far no luck, but I hope to have some evidence by sometime tomorrow. [pictures] Near Corona, Ca. the temperature hit 98 degrees making a 98 degree spread from South Dakota's Zero to California's 98 degrees today.

(1.) Gas and dinner in Primm.

(2.) Last camp site in Victorville.

Back home report.

Hi, well we made it home without any malfunctions or damage. Both vehicles are in need of a major bath. all eight Goodyear tires still have tread all the way around them and they all still hold air. Our street was clear of vehicles on both sides of the street and I was able to hit my driveway in one shot, then make one adjustment to have my trailer in an accessable area for cleaning and a few minor mods.

Stay tuned for a Mickey Mouse up-date.

We enjoyed taking you all along with us on our random trip.

Bob & Lee, thanks for sharing your beautiful trip! When you told us at Jackson Rancheria RV Park that you were headed to South Dakota, I wondered if you would make it! Airstreamers are a determined, courageous bunch... I hope you got rid of those hitch-hikers!

Cheers

Bob, thanks for taking us along and I'm glad to see you made it through all that weather without any mishaps other than frozen hoses. We're leaving Tuesday and it appears there may be some snow as we cross the mountains, but warm enough to be melted off the roads by the time we go over Vail Pass. I'll have my mighty snowbrush handy!

Two minor glitches.

Hi, I didn't mention two things on this trip, other than my water hose freezing. My closet door has three hinges and the top one came loose. I was able to re-adjust it and re-tighten it. And my windshield washer fluid froze too, but engine heat took care of that. Mickey Mouse is still missing in action so I added some bait to my sticky traps; If he gets hungry, and if he is still here, I might still get him. If I don't find him in a few days I'm going to gas him out with a flea bomb. I want to make sure he is either caught, or gone, before I start sealing around the wheel wells and the steps.

Bob,

Did you say your closet door had a hinge come loose? I think you need your axles replaced. You better get right on it....

Hi, my running gear is balanced, tires balanced on the wheels, and Centramatics taking care of everything else. As for axles, until they start to retract like an airplane, I'm keeping my originals. Maybe my Lincoln is over-hitched/sprung?

Miles and Time.

Hi, I just added up how many miles we put on in 15 days. This includes from Lakewood to Jackson Rancheria and to our random trip. South Dakota or bust, and back. We went 3,818.1 miles at an average of 11.1 MPG. I'm too young to have a heart attack so I won't be adding up the dollars.

When I was doing the final cleaning of our Trade Wind before going to Jackson Rancheria I notice evidence that we had a little free-loader too. I continued with the cleaning and planned getting a trap to take on the trip. The last thing I did was to mop the floor with Mop N Glo. I was tired so I left the bucket with the water that I squeezed the mop into in the trailer. The next morning I found the free-loader drowned in the bucket of rinse water. The bucket was against the Honda2000 which was against the dinette seat which was where the 'evidence' that I discovered the day before. I'm guessing perhaps the Mop N Glo may have been an attractant. Waddya all think?
Neil.

Mop-N-Glow.

Hi, Neil. You might have something there. I thought about a bucket of water with some food floating in the middle to catch the free loader. After I know the coast is clear, I want to make sure they don't have a way to get back in.

Maybe he had a concussion from bouncing along the highway and then died of old age.

Look for the mummy next year.

Neil got lucky....I think the little guy was just thirsty (before rains).

Combine peanut butter, oats, and chopped walnuts (any nuts will do...walnuts are the cheapest) for bait, and use a snap trap. For back-up, maybe use one of those sticky traps. I keep expecting PETA to start picketing whoever makes those sticky traps....

If you are not finding any "evidence" of mice, I wouldn't continue very long. It could be they weren't hitch-hiking....maybe just lookin' for a free meal!

Cheers, former endangered mouse trapper

Speaking of access for mice. This weekend I put a GFI plug in the bathroom as it had just a standard plug and also ran wiring for an additional plug streetside in the bedroom for a TV soon to be mounted in there. I decided to run another cable outlet too.. So needless to say I had things torn up.. While crawling around everywhere I came across 4 more large holes drilled into the flooring. Some under the water heater and in that area.. The cable wire up through the floor in the bedroom and one more near the wheel well. If you look through you can see daylight. Now I know they figure the belly pan is in place so what could happen.. lol

Alot can happen. It doesnt take houdini to get into that belly pan thats for sure. I did my best to seal off those holes a bit better.

I don't know about your trailer Vin, but on ours the 120 v. breaker in the converter assembly for the bathroom has the GFCI feature and that means every receptacle on that branch circuit is protected.

Hi Gene,

This 2001 doesnt have and GFI plugs anywhere. I checked high and low.

It looks like Airstream just runs romax through the trailer and strips and clips on these electrical plugs in place. In theory the wiring is not passing through the plug but rather the plug just hangs on to the wiring. I though it would be best to wire in a GFI plug so I dont look like this
