Blue Ridge Parkway
We are planning on touring the Blue Ridge Parkway this October. Any guidance would be helpful. Tips on campgrounds, must see's, things to avoid?

Churches of the Frescoes
These 2 small churches are located conveniently off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Well worth a stop. Absolutely beautiful frescoes by world renowned fresco artist Ben Long.

This is a fun State Park to visit. Lots of people enjoy looking for the Fairystones. Also close to the Blue Ridge Parkway

Edited to remove bad link
Please use this link to view information on the Ben Long Frescoes.
When I tried the one in the post it is redirecting you to a bad website.
The one below is from the North Carolina travel website.

I grew up in Virginia, and I can tell you the Parkway gets INCREDIBLY busy during the Fall colors (colours). Also, the Parkway gets very tight in places, with low, rock walls close to the road in lieu of guardrails. I would leave the trailer at a park in a less congested area, and do day trips in your TV. Despite the crowds, it's very beautiful.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is fantastic. Be advised there are no facilities on the side of the road, so you'll have to exit to towns.
There's also no advertising signs. The speed limit is 45. The road is smooth as can be.
It's part of the natural beauty.
I did a hundred miles from a motorcycle, came around a curve and found a bear in the road. I don't know who was more surprised, him or me, but I had a giant smile at seeing him dash off.
We were surprised we never saw a deer or a deer carcass. We were expecting tons of them.

Road is great, 45 mph and watch out for cyclists.
Campgrounds are dry-camping only, and many sites are too short for trailers. Plan to stop early in the day and be prepared to go off the parkway if the cgs are full. You can reserve sites - prob not a bad idea. Don't plan on making many miles and have a wonderful trip.

I don't care for the BRP in the fall due to the heavy traffic from leaf lookers.

Blue Ridge Parkway
This is a favorite area of ours for visits. When we visited in 2016 we camped at Sherando Lake Recereation Area in Lyndhurst, Va. Our trailer stayed there as we visited Skyine Drive in Shenandoah National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Charlottesville and Harrisonburg, Virginia. The area is filled with natural beauty and historical interest.
Sherando Lake was a smaller park with well designed campsites and great campsite hosts who were the most welcoming and prepared that we have met.

Blue Ridge Parkway
Naper, The Parkway is beautiful that time of year I live on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 163 in V.A.I have a full hook up available for overnight you would be welcome to use, I am only 200 feet off the Parkway. A great winery at milepost 175 also Friday night in Floyd V.A. for the music every Friday night people are out on the street jamming also High land Haven Airstream park is only 24 miles from me, Now that is what you call Southern hospitality! My wife and I will be at the Alumalina rally in Cleveland SC on the 26th Oct, but we should be home around the 15th, Regards Labalope
