Black canyon of the Gunnison and safe place to leave the rig near Denver

We are looking to tour Colorado this year - one of our must go destinations is The Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We are looking for advice of people who have camped there and around there. Is it worth camping at both rims? which one do you prefer?

What are your favorite Colorado campsites - we favor National and State parks over commercial campgrounds and are pretty good boondockers although we do like paved roads.

Also we need to fly back East for a wedding so we are looking to leave the rig in a secure spot in and around Denver for 1 to 2 months and then resume our trip - advice on a good storage spot please.

Regarding storage - I keep my trailer here, along with a number of other airstream owners in North Denver:

It is very secure and well kept. Fresh water and dump on site. I think there are 5 airstreams just in our row.

Its about 3 miles north of 470 off i25 - so an easy 20-25 minutes from the airport.

We were there last June, you will like it. I know you prefer NP and SP campgrounds, but we stayed at the Montrose KOA and it was pretty decent.

We also stayed at Heaton Bay National Forest campground when we were heading towards Denver. Nice campground.
