Big Basin Redwoods State Park (ca)

We spent 5 nights in Big Basin Redwoods, near Boulder Creek, CA. It was magic: towering redwoods, tan oaks, and almost complete solitude, due to recent storms and temporary campground closure. Big Basin is a must-see, but the longer your rig, the more difficult the approach to the park: 9 miles of some pretty tight turns! The journey is worth it!

Thanks Escape Pod! Great photos. It's very close to home for us, and we'll plan a trip within the next couple of months. What was your site#?

Nice photos! Last time I was at Big Basin was in the early eighties when I got to experience the true name after a heavy rain in tent

There are several campgrounds in the park; we were in space #160 in the Sempervirens campground. Most of the campsites appear to be for tent camping, with about 10% allocated to RV/trailers. No hookups, however.

Very nice area.
The river can be a lot of fun during warm weather as well, especially for the youngsters.

Very nice pics! Have you been to Redwood N.P.? And how does it compare? We are going cross country starting in late april and will be in that area probably in june. So i was wondering if that state park has something that Redwood does not. It might be a little out of our way, so if it was a little similar we might want to skip it. We are starting to map out our trip now. Thank You, George

Hi, George:
I haven't camped in Redwood NP, but I imagine it's also got an impressive redwood forest. Since Big Basin is a little off the beaten path, I wouldn't want to tell you that it was unique, although probably less congested. Of course, we were there in February, not June, when I'm assuming there is a larger camping population. Anyway, thanks for the reference to the NP; I'll add that to our itinerary when we are headed to Northern California. Have a great trip!
-Jerry
