Beaver's Bend State Park, Oklahoma

Thinking about heading up there in June. Anyone been this year? Thoughts on availability without reservations? general thoughts about either Beaver's Bend or Hochatown campsites?

Thanks
Dana

If memory serves from back when I lived in Oklahoma, most Oklahoma State Parks don't even accept reservations for campsites; they're strictly first-come-first served. Which is one reason I've been reluctant to head up that way so far. Living in New Orleans, it's a 12-hour drive or more to get to any of them, and that's a long way to go only to find out they're already full up.

Maybe after I retire, and can plan to arrive in mid-week instead of on weekends. In my experience from the times I was able to schedule week-long trips, most state parks in any state tend to get kind of sparsely populated come Tuesday or Wednesday.

Never been camping in OK but just for kicks I went to (beaversbend.com) and they do take reservations. I also checked (gocampok.com) and you can reserve state park camping.
It's funny how the memory starts going with age. LOL
Now back to what you asked, What was it you wanted to know?

Oh wait, I have camped in OK. Vinita, OK
Well that is if you call Walmart, camping.
However, Clanton's Cafe in Vinita is a must for their Chicken fried steak.
See what I mean about the memory.

Thanks. I checked out that web page, and bookmarked it. That page didn't even exist last time I looked into camping at an Oklahoma state park, which is an indication of how long ago it was. This is one case I'm glad to be proven wrong.

I've seen no mention of things about Beaver's Bend.

We lived in Dallas and raised our family there. BB was, and is a great destination.

Back then, we rented cabins.

We've only camped there once, in the past five years.

That said, there are plenty of hiking trails, a pretty good restaurant for lunch, and lots of options for the entire family.

There's museum in the admin building that's pretty extensive.

Nearby, Broken Bow has an excellent Mexican restaurant; can't remember the name.

Last time we camped there, they were renovating a large campground to include full service.

For those who like to semi boondock, there's a campground with that in mind away from the main facility.

Bottom line, if it weren't several hours away, we would be there quite often.

Protagonist,
I miss the Santa hat in you profile pix. I think you should have different hats for different times of the year.

Robber's Cave State Park is north of Beaver's Bend. I used to go there as a child. It's the place where outlaws hid out when Oklahoma was Indian Territory. Lots of wild west history there--Belle Star, the Dalton Gang, etc. I don't know how it is now, but I loved going there and enjoyed the hikes while growing up in Oklahoma.

We have been to beaver bend many times. We live north of Dallas. Reserve ahead. It is really nice with some great rv sites. It is a higher elevation and a little cooler than Dallas. Great in spring and the fall is georgious. Have fun
