Can anyone in the Austin area fill me in on what's going on over at Bastrop State Park? State's website has ominous looking warning window about closures for reconstruction of roadways. Has anyone been over there lately that can give an update? Was considering it as a stopping off point on the way to Port Aransas but don't want to get mixed up in a mess if that's the case.

I may try to make a reservation then. I was going to push on to San Antonio but in researching RV parks in San Antonio, it looks like real slim pickings in terms of quality according to RVParkReviews. Plus I like putting my tax dollars to work.
You can stay at the sister park in Smithville, Buescher SP. Only about 10 miles toward Houston. Not as large a park, but I like it there and Smithville is a nice town.
Buescher and Bastrop parks are connected by a pretty back road.

We camped there April 9th. They're working on some of the roads and improving some of the camp sites, but we didn't have any problems getting a site and we had a really nice weekend. We called before we booked a reservation.
