We just spent 3 nights in Glacier at Swift Current, then off to Banff Two Jack Lake campgrounds for 3 nights. Great weather and of course, scenery. No bear this trip, but great hiking and lots of deer and elk in Banff... There was a bear scare in Swift Current couple weeks back when a Grizzly snuck up on a couple tent campers who were cleaning fish on the picnic table at their campsite...you know, the one with the sticker on it that says "be bear aware"? The bear ate the fish, and then was checking out the backpacks in the tent. This prompted the Rangers to shut down all camping in tents and softsided camping trailers. I am sure that is why we got into Swift current at 11am and still had plenty of camp sites to fit our 28' and my friends 23' AS. What was unusual was half the Swift Current campgrounds, which is reservation only, was still mainly unoccupied. Reservations were on the posts with the dates, but they were empty. I was told they re-assigned these folks to either Two Medicine, or St. Marys campgrounds, but since they did not know when they would "lift the no tents ban" they could not re-assign the sites....seems like a waste of good campsites for folks who have hard sided RV's? Anyway, we had a great time.
In Canada, we stayed the first night out side Canmore at 3 Sisters campgrounds. $28Canadian/night...pit toilets, but very clean and on the Bow River...very nice. Canmore is very quaint town with lots of great places to shop, eat, and stock up on supplies...like a mini-Banff, but way less crowded! We went on to Two Jacks Lake campground next morning and were able to get in 2 sites side by side, even though it is reservation only now for this area. We have stayed here many times in the past, without reservations. On Sunday we were told it was full; Monday morning, I drove up early and at 9am, was able to get 2 sites side by side for 2 more nights. Would recommend the gondola ride in Banff if you have not taken it...gives you a great view of the valley, the #1 highway to Lake Louise, and of course, Banff. Only regret was not taking the Kayaks this trip...plenty of opportunity to explore on the water. No fires this year yet, so great pictures. (note the "low rider" pickup pulling the low rider travel trailer...
